Here are today's Dragon Age forum highlights, collected by NWVault. Please take into account that these are only single parts of various threads and should not be taken out of context. Bear in mind also that the posts presented here are copied as-is, and that any bad spelling and grammar does not get corrected on our end.

    Cut screens/movies
Pre rendered movies have one huge drawback - they can never show the main character, at least not in a game with lots of options to adjust your character's appearance. That said, NWN used a different style for FMVs that BG and KotOR had a different one than NWN. Jade uses a combination of pre rendered FMVs, In-Engine Animator cutscenes (i.e. a motion captured cutscene in the game engine) and In-Game Designer cutscenes (scripted) to drive the story forward. What DA will use ... you'll have to wait - but I doubts it's the slides you've seen in NWN:) Check out the Jade Video-Mod screens
Click Here (or the video on the MTV2 site).

More: We have an awesome array of cutscene related functions in Jade, I think about around 30 scripting commands just dealing with cutscene aspects. It's certainly not easy, but with the functions available in Jade it is possible to make very cinematic scripted cutscenes. In Jade there is a camera object type, so you can place cameras in the area, switch between them, move them in all possible fashions (pan, rotate, truck, orbit, fly, zoom, follow, etc), all kind of camera related effects such as shaking (i.e. to simulate an impact in first person) and all kind of cinematic effects such as screen overlays, sepia, pixel flare, motion blur, game speed etc.

There are a couple of cutscenes from various demos we did this year available on the jade website, i.e. the scene of the ogre bashing up the guy in the teahouse or the jumping bandits were done entirely in scripting language and you can see some of the camera options there.

I'm guessing that Dragon Age's designer cutscene functionality will be at a similar or better level, through just because something is used in Jade, it doesn't mean it would make sense to use the same for DA (i.e. in a multiplayer environment, setting the game speed to slowmo might be a bad idea :) ). All in all, especially compared to NWN, the options available for for designers to create cutscenes with a really cinematic feel to them have improved a lot.
