RPG Vault has interviewed Jasen Torres from Liquid Entertainment on Liquid's upcoming Dungeons & Dragons real time strategy game entitled Dragonshard. They discuss the meaning of the name, the degrees of emphasis on various aspects of the game, the differences between the Eberron setting used and the classic D&D Forgotten Realms setting and many others. The whole takes three pages. Here's a snip:

Jonric: To introduce Dragonshard, what kind of game is it? What are its key features, and what high-level goals did you have for it? And what does the name mean?

Jasen Torres: Dragonshard is an RTS game with lots of RPG elements and D&D flavor that takes place in the new D&D Eberron campaign setting. Its main features include a vast dungeon experience in the form of an ancient, underworld city that acts as a home for treasure, traps, items, quests and lots of D&D monsters. Another would be the Building Nexus system - a unique grid-based way to construct a town where the location of placed buildings can add special powers or increase the maximum level cap for different types of units.
Certain people are born with or get Dragonmarks, which are tattoo-like markings that appear on their body and grant them special spell-like abilities.
Our ultimate goal was to make an RTS game that felt like it was in a D&D universe and was really, really fun to play. There are lots of little sub-goals that form from that sentence, of course, but that is the place from which we started.

As for the name, a Dragonshard is something directly from D&D - a special type of crystal in the new D&D world of Eberron that allow for magically "charged" artifacts and other magical related uses. It is also one of the main resources of the game, and the focus for all of the playable factions in the single-player campaign is the largest of all Dragonshards.
