Computer Games Magazine has posted a Dragonshard interview. Here's a snip:

Computer Games - What can you tell us about the game's single player storyline?

Jasen Torres - The storyline is essentially a struggle to obtain, defend, or "control" the Heart of Siberys- the largest of all dragonshards that have fallen to Eberon. Since dragonshards are a great source of magic (they are somewhat like "fuel" for magical artifacts and other things) the Heart of Siberys would make a significant impact on the world for any who might be able to use it.

The three factions in the game that are after it all have different motivations and come from different places, which largely makes up the dynamic of their campaign (as well as their stuggle with the other factions). The fourth faction, Monsters, doesn't care about much other than eating people, cooking and then eating people, cooking and eating people with fancy sauces, and possibly sucking the blood out of people before they hand them over to their cohorts who then eat them.
