I am really bad at drawing people and was wondering if anybody had any hints/tips/links to help me, the only thing I actually can draw is Dragons and even they aren't that good

Oh yeah, and I can draw a very thin piece of string :)

    ER....practice makes perfect?
I don't know, there isn't really a way where you can simply learn to draw better. I got an A in my Graphic Art GSCE, but i've been into drawing for years and years.
Erm.. just keep drawing I guess.

I'm drawing now and my mother has given me tips and a demonstration, it is looking okay, but a bit out of proportion, oh well, I have 76 pages of paper to get through ;)

There are plenty of good books or websites on how to draw things. One rule everyone seems to stress is to make an outline of whatever you intend to draw. It helps with proportion, and a general idea of whatever you're drawing looks like on paper.

Well, it sounds goofy, but one of the simplest methods is to begin with basic geometric shapes: a person's face and head are roughly oval in shape, torso is triangular, etc. Each major body part and limb should be one simple shape, arranged as you like. Check the proportions in that state, and once you're satisfied start to "rough-in" the details a little bit.

Don't get discouraged if it doesn't turn out the way you imagined it either - it never does, for anyone ;) Michelangelo's enormous sculpture of Moses (I think it's Moses) has a noticeable dent in it. Apparently, he became so frustrated with it that he throw his hammer at it, chipping the sculpture and leaving a large dent. Similarly, Leonardo da Vinci never considered any of his art work 'complete' and several of them (including the 'Last Supper') he considered to be failures.

[IMG] Gnolyn is right about the shapes. I'm not a trained artist but I do a lot of drawing/painting/image making and so on. Everything big is made of smaler things-namely lines and shapes. Plus,if what you draw isn't like a photo-thats a good thing.

  8. Well, sometimes, it's also the way you portray yourself. I draw plenty, I'm humble but still proud of the littles scraps of female portraits I've done. If you think you are bad, draw funny things, where the more crapped up, the better. It'll give you confidence and boost your drawing abilities. Then, once you find that a shape you've drawn looks alright, go with more serious things you like to draw. And trust me, before *you* judge, get someone honest to tell you what they think of it, because I know that I'll show a piece of (crap) drawing to my friend and she'll be like, "OMG! That is so good. Except here and here." So, practice does not make perfect, it just depends on what you like and want to draw.
