I have tried all of the solutions posted a Sorcerors Place and it was to no avail and the game refuses to install at all now. Any help would be great.
    Thanks

You need to be more clear about your problem. First of all, bg2 dosn't have a fifth cd.

I know that Bg2 does not have a 5th cd but the machine still asks for the Disc 5. It is a problem that others have expierienced and I read somewhere that it might be a problem with the CD drive and that I might need a driver update and I was wondering if anybody could clarify this or shed some light on the problem.

    Is it with the instalation?
Otherwise, I suggest you get your savegames on a disc and then throw the game off your pc.
Install it then with a full instalation as you won't need the cd's after that, just one to keep the game running...

    Thanks for answering.
I was able to install the game initially after encountering the disc 5 problem and then returning the game and picking up a new copy several times before it installed perfectly. After finishing the game I uninstalled it hoping that the BG2 English Patch would solve my problem. Now as I attempted to install the game again the computer asks for a disc 5 during the installation process.

It asks for the fifth cd because it is looking to continue instillation from the previous cd, whichever one actually got the error, and it can't find the correct error.

The way the installation works is:
First there is a table of contents copied to a temp file. This ToC lists all the files that need to be copied and the order in which they should be copied.

    Second it copies files

Third it makes registry entries and asks you all the customization questions.

What is happening is on one of the cd's their is either a file missing (because either it is a bad CD or it is a bad burn of a CD) or because it cannot read a file. Therefore it will ask for the next cd, fid the file isn't there and ask for the next, etc. ad infinium. In either case the solution is to procure a functioning CD to replace the one with the error.

Good stuff from Dauntalus but I would advise you to use the hints from the link in Capt. Tripps' post before you start worrying about having a faulty disk that needs to be returned. The first time I installed the game I had the same problem in that it kept asking me for Disk 5. i was about to return the game to the shop when I decided to read the official help stuff (shown in that link) first.

Basically I found that the problem was that I was clicking on the 'continue' button too quickly during instalation and my poor CD drive didn't have time to spin up. This causes the installer program to think there are missing files (as per Dauntalus' post) when there are not.

So read the official help via that link, then be patient and let your CD keep up, then enjoy the game. If the last bit doesn't happen they maybe you will have to return it and ask for a new copy. :(

    Good luck.
