Alright - so, I've never seen anything that tells me why or when to use most of the shape changes available to druids. For instance, what is the benefit of a Dire Bear over a Dire Panther? Or Boars?

Shambling Mounds - nice special attack. Winter wolf - cold resistance. Elemental shapes - definite thumbs up for these. But a lot of these I just can't find a use for.

Take boring beetles - I really can't find a reason to use this, especially since it takes a feat to use it. Is there anything special about them?

The elemental shapes are useless unless you want your Druid to pickpocket or get high AC in air elemental form.

For offensive combat dire bear is far superior to any other shape.
Boar is astonishingly powerful when you get it, winter wolf is fast, polar bear damaging and dire bear is a better version of it.

The rest is just for having fun, not for power.

    I agree.

Polar Bear and Dire Bear is the most devastating shapes, especially if you buff them up too.

Bulls Strength, Champions Strength, Power of one, Cats Grace and so on really makes a frightening bear.

There is a time in game where the speed of the Dire Panther is very useful, but otherwise don't bother. The Bear shapes are better.
