If I remember right, weren't Druids able to use swords? Specifically the Scimitar?

I was thinking back when I used to do PnP and it just hit me that somewhere along the line Druids were using Scimitars.

I could be wrong though... It's been a long time, but it seems like another one of those areas where the rules were changed for the game.

[IMG] Druids in BG-2 SoA can iirc use: Daggers, darts, scimitars, spears, clubs, staffs and slings. That's it.

Druids in both SoA and PnP can use scimitars, apparently because of the blade's connection with the moon. Even a fighter/druid cannot use any other swords, though (though IIRC Jaheira used one ninja-to, but couldn't use any others.)

That theory with druids able to use scimitars becouse of their reesmblance to the moon is a little strange.
I mean there are weapons that resemble moon more than scimitar like an axe, halberd and pehaps some others.
That brings bow to my mind. Its shape is most similiar to moon and druids are restricted from it. AND its one of the most ancient weapons, even older than any sword as it was invented before metal ages. Thats the biggest resentment i bear towards D&D 2 edition: restrictment of weapons to non-fighter classes. It just isnt realistic.

Another theory says its becouse of ancient egyptians who used sickles-swords for rituals and such stuff. But then they also extensively used axes in war and druids aren't able to use axes.

My personal opinion is that developers just said that's the way its gonna be becouse of the game balance.

Hehe, druids are treehuggers, they can't use an axe. That would be ridicolous :D

[IMG] I am playing a thief and in my game Jahira cannot use the Wand of Holiness.
My sister plays a mage an in her game Jahira can. There may be some inconsistancies with the Game??

Iirc, the Wand of Holiness is the one with charges of Flamestrike? If that's so, then in my games Jaheira has always been able to use it. Hmph.

There is no wand of holiness.

Perhaps you thought wand of heavens which has flamestrike effect.

Yeah all priests can use that one.

The scimitar is symbolically closer for the druid in that it bears a resemblance to a a scythe or a sickle, both of which are used for harvesting. Druids have a special connection with plants (and in some rule sets, with mistletoe) and for their spells to have full effect, they must harvest their mistletoe with a silver sickle under a full moon. Axes, halberds, and even bows do not have any connection with agriculture or especially plant harvesting, therefore Druids cannot use them.
