[IMG] A new game starting with a cleric of Lathander; I'm wondering when to dual class to ranger. I'd like to access to both sets of stronghold quests and am prepared to complete the Shadow Dungeon very late so as to have a suitable cleric level before switching to dual class. What would be best - dual class around level 15 or 20? I have to wait till the levels are equal before I can use the cleric spells again, right?

    Thx for any advice.

Unless you've got a multi-stronghold patch, you can never have more than one stronghold without expoiting a bug in the way strongholds are handled.

By level 15, you'll have level 7 spells (go Heal! :) ). You'll only be able to get 1 stronghold, unless you have what Drew mentioned.

Don't forget you need a 14 Wis, 17 Str, Dex and Con for dualling to a ranger.

Actually, with the Ranger's prime requisites being STR, DEX, & WIS, you'd need: "14 CON, 17 STR, DEX and WIS"

Heal is a sixth level spell. But there are several good seventh level spells as well.

Most people go the other way -- start as a ranger than dual to cleric (better hit points). Multiclassing is very popular with this combo (both ranger and cleric HLA's).

Does the cleric to ranger dual exploit the 'cast all priest spells' bug?

Actually, it appears that this may have been a "balancing decision" (since the infinity engine does not support the ability to cast divine spells from more than one source) and not actually a bug.

Cleric dualed to ranger is a roleplaying choice.
A multiclass cleric/ranger would be better during the whole game. A ranger7/cleric has nearly the same fighting power and far better spellcasting skills.

Level 14 is already enough for casting level 7 spells.
It will take 3,150,000 XP until dualclassing is complete and even 4,350,000 XP until you get the first HLA. You will probably have played more than 80 percent of the game then.
Waiting longer doesn't make sense even for powergamers.

9 or 10 cleric levels are enough for raising dead or iron skins.

I wouldn't wait longer with dualclassing, you loose about 3-4 HP and one HLA for each additional cleric level you take.
Each extra level you wait will also require 575,000 extra XP until dualclassing is finished.

Thanks for the advice. It seems I should have started with a Ranger for best effect. The reason I didn't is because I've created a reasonably uber character using the BG team character creator, and it always defaulted to 'fallen Ranger' so I just began with a cleric instead. My character is level 12 and I can see now the wait for the Ranger level to catch up will be awful :( .

Shadowkeeper is better, and so is all the mods and stuff you can download here. Just get the multiple stronghold mod and rejoice.
