dual-classing

I was experimenting with the charachter creator and I made a human swashbuckler, but when I started the game I tried if I could dual-class him (never tried that before) but the dual-class button wasn't there

    So here are some questions
    1. Is this normal in the very beginning of the game, that you can't dual class?

    2. Can thieves (and swashbuclers) be dual-classed into clerics (just wondering because only Gnomes can become Cleric/Thief)?

I'm pretty sure you can dual right away in BG2. But I think you need a 17 in the primary stat of the class you want to dual to. So if you want to DC to a mage you'll need 17+ INT, a cleric 17+ WIS, and so on. Does your character meet this requirement?

And yes you can dual a thief(sw) to a cleric.

you need 17 in the prime requiste of the class you want to dual to, so if you want to dual to a cleric you need 17 wis and you will need a 17 of dex too because you were a thief at the beginning

[IMG] Not only do you need 17 in the prime stats of the class you want to dual to, but you need 15 in the prime stats of your current class.

I'm considering that same dual-class too for my next time around (I just need to finish my current game first). The thing about the DC swashbuckler/cleric is that while you can use any weapons the cleric can, you can only put two points in the weapons that both the thief and the cleric can use (that is clubs, slings and quarterstaffs only). All other cleric weapons you can only put one point in. Of course you can also put up to three points in dual-weilding, so if you like dual-weilding clerics this is the way to go. :D
