I am unsure on how the armor/weapon restrictions are handled after dualclassing. Imoen is a Thief/Mage, does this give her any advantages over plain Mage other than(pretty worthless) Thief skills?

She can equip thief weapons, and backstab (but her modifier sucks). She can also equip light armour but she will not be able to cast spells while doing so.

There are rings that improve her thief skills so that you can use at least pick lock and find traps to good effect.

    Dual-classing works like that:

While your first class is inactive, all weapon/armor restrictions (as well as proficiencies) of your current class count, and ONLY them.

When you regain your first class, your restrictions will be the same of a multiclassed character. So, if you were a Fighter dualled to Mage, you'd be able to use any weapon. You can also wear armor, but can't cast spells while doing that.

Also, the weapon proficiencies of your first class will be back, but they will NOT stack with your old class - only the higher value will remain.

For example, you are a Fighter with *** on Dagger. Then you dual to Mage and put * there. When the Fighter class becomes active again, you will have *** in Daggers again. However, next time you gain a proficiency point, you'll be able to take Daggers to **** and then *****.

EDIT: it's worth noting that when dual-classing Clerics, their weapon restriction will always count. So, a Fighter dualled to (or from) Cleric will only be allowed to wield weapons that are allowed by the Cleric class.

Ummm. Multiclass Mages have another Advantage. There are armours that they can wear and use Magic. The Elven Chains. BladeSingers Chain. It's upgrade in ToB...

The only dual/multi class that can't take advantage of this is the Kensai/Mage combination.
