The seventh issue of the beta journal has been published at the official Dungeons & Dragons Online site. This one deals with tactics, tactics and more tactics. Here's the beginning:

I have been playing the Dungeons and Dungeons & Dragons™ Online: Stormreach™ (DDO) Beta for about seven weeks now, and in this journal I’d like to share some party tactics that could make one’s enjoyment of the game’s action-based combat system that much better.

Initially I, like most veteran MMORPG players, did not give much thought about melee tactics (position, range, targeting, prioritize targets, and especially party combat tactics). Yet nor was I one of those players who would simply charge into the mob of monsters and swing away recklessly. As a long-time pen and paper (PnP) player and former Marine, there were some basic combat tactics that I automatically fell into using.

It's probably worth reading even if you aren't interested in this particular game because it doesn't get much different in cRPGs, anyway. Personally, I enjoy the tactics part a lot, but I'm also an RTS player, so this is probably why. I'm a big fan of archery tactics (if without short-term buffs) and quick and intense concentrated melee (if I have short-term buffs) in the long run, but I have a couple of tricks for special occasion, such as distracting spellcasters with single individual part members, decoying, web and area damage spells etc. What about you?

Read the whole thing at DDO official site.
