Amongst several other WeiDu mods (actually all of them) I have the Ease of Use installed. It should allow me to put more than two points in a weapon proficiency for PCs that otherwise can only be specialized in a weapon - such as multi-classed or ranger and paladins.

I tried to give Solaufein a third point in long sword, but it doesnt work. Tried anything - from reinstalling EoU to kicking Sola out of my party and then reinstalling the mod and let him join again - but it just wont happen! :/

Can someone please tell me what to do?
    Thanks.

All of them?! Hmm, that's a lot, and introduces all kinds of variables, especially since some are incompatible with others because they alter the same files. Maybe more than one mod is overwriting the proficiency tables, and one that prevents mastery was installed after the ease of use?

All of weimer's mods need to be installed prior to the WeiDU mods of others. Maybe that's the problem?

I guess you are right, Bombur. Maybe I was a bit too eager with all those mods. :(
BUT I have had Tactics, Ascension, Ease, Item Upgrade, Solaufein installed before and things were just fine. No trouble.

Now I have added Valen, Subraces and the Rogue Rebalancing mod, none of which should touch the prof tables of multi-classes & rangers/paladins as far as I know. They are supposed to be compatible as well.

Anyway, since no solution was forthcoming here I used Shadowkeeper (something I vowed never to do, cause I dont trust myself with it :shake: ).

    >Edit< Rastor, there is a distinction between Weimer and WeiDu? I didnt know that. Oh boy. Will have to look into it.

Wes Weimer is a modder and the creator of WeiDU; WeiDU (Weimer Dialogue Utility) is a modding tool.

    Thanks, CamDawg.
    I thought so. :)
I was always under the impression that Weimer is the person/creator and WeiDu is the product/mod/whatever.

So, Weimer mods and WeiDu mods are one and the same - am I right here? Or is there a particular order, like Rastor said, in which these mods have to be installed?

    >Edit< Oh, now I get it. The mods created by Weimer himself have to be installed before the mods created with his WeiDu-tool, but written by other modders? Well, I will try this then.
    My, is this tricky.

Err, no, I think I may have muddied the waters rather than helping.

Wes Weimer is a modder and produces mods such as Solaufein, Valen, Spell-50, etc. He also wrote WeiDU, a tool used by Wes and most modders (such as Rastor and myself) to package and distribute their mods. When you hear that such-and-such is a "WeiDU mod" it means that the creator is using the WeiDU tool to distribute their mod. This is important as WeiDU mods are, in general, much better at playing nicely with one another.

Unless the readme states otherwise (please read them--it makes coders very happy when you do!), WeiDU mods, including the ones by Wes, can generally be installed in whatever order you prefer. Install order becomes a big issue, though, when mixing WeiDU mods with non-WeiDU mods. Some good rules of thumb:

    • Use only one non-WeiDU mod at a time. Most non-WeiDU mods are in older formats or overwrite (rather than patch) critical files, meaning that using more than one at a time will usually FUBAR your install.
    • Install WeiDU mods after any non-WeiDU mods. Since WeiDU mods generally patch rather than overwrite files, they are more likely to play nicely with one another and even with the non-WeiDU mods.
    • Within WeiDU mods (including those by Weimer) order is generally arbitrary. However, take a look at the readme's to see if a mod should be installed before or after another mod. Failing that, go for older mods first since some of the newer mods can build and extend from an older mod's content.

OK, so now I'm confused (as usual).

    When Rastor says:
...this says to me that any WeiDu mods that are written by weimer should be installed before other WeiDu mods. True or False? And if True, why? Or does it just apply to his mods that are in non-WeiDu format (if there are any)?

Both are true--all of Weimer's mods are WeiDU and Rastor's advice is solid. A lot of Weimer's mods have been around for a while, meaning some still rely on overwriting files (i.e. some EoU components) and other mods may build off their content. For example, the Flirt Packs and Kelsey mods will build onto Solaufein content, but only if Sola is already installed. You won't get a FUBAR'd install by reversing the order though you may lose some content. This is the general older-WeiDU-mods-followed-by-newer-WeiDU-mods rule.

Yesse. Icelus, you are in trouble now! :spin: :1eye:

CamDawg, again my thanks for the help.
The murky waters of mods start to clear a bit.

    Bring it on, baby!

Yes, many of Weimer's mods were quite outdated and did lead to a few compatibility. He is, however, very receptive to bug reports and suggestions, and several mods, including Tactics and Ease of Use, have been tweaked and re-released in the last month to be more compatible. Everyone just needs to remember to uninstall the old versions FIRST, and then install the new ones.

Nitpicking... I would actually recommend using the re-install option, as it retains your mod installation order. An uninstall-install combo would move them to the end of the order, and IMO stuff like EoU should still remain pretty close to the first WeiDU mod in the install order.

Does it seem like the extra proficiency points do anything? I have my swashbuckler up to five points in katanas and he still only gets 2 attacks per round. And is Keldorn supposed to have 3 slots in two-handed weapon fighting style?

Hardcoded limitation. Classes outside of fighters, paladins, and rangers do not get extra attacks from more than one star in a weapon.

With EoU you can actually put five stars in the various weapon styles, but anything beyond two (or three in the case of dual-wielding) doesn't do anything. It's mentioned in the readme IIRC.
