I have been intrigued by this new campaign setting. I perused the campaign setting book back in December and made big hints that Christmas and me and that book should come together. As is want to happen in my home, no one thought it or myself worth $30, so I got a bunch of slim jims. Regardless of slim jims, How do the real serious D&Der's feel bout this setting. I played a little in Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, and using the boardgame way back in the early 90's was my intro to D&D.

Well I went and was able to get my hands on two of the Eberron novels, the Keith Baker one was really cool, and feel myself falling in love all over again. The setting seemed way cool with the way magic permeated everything around, the warforged and there eternal struggle to find a purpose after the big war, the dragonmarks. It just seems like the things that laid the background for Eberron are of a more serious tone than in Forgotten Realms, whose ToT almost seems whimsical to me in comparrison.

Anyways, I just wanted to hear some thoughts about the setting. Things you like, don't like; things you're hoping to do in the setting, whatever you want to say. Holler back, y'alls.

    It's great.

I like low powered, more realistic campaigns. Eberron is more neutral than any other setting (maybe except Dark Sun), alignment is not as set or important than in FR. Most of the NPCs are neutral, hobgoblins and orcs are viable player characters. The latter even take the role of protectors of the world. Even dragons are ambivalent. There are as many 'good' chromatic dragons as 'evil' metallic ones.
Magic has an industry-like character. It feels more real, more usable. Psionics have the same status.

It's great. Andy yeah, I'm repeating myself.

I haven't really taken to it because it just seems far too weird and requires too much of a rearrangement of the concepts D&D presents in the core books. I would rather play a generic D&D setting until I would want to try something new.

I have to agree with Oaz, it's just so much different from the Core D&D that it becomes too big of a leap. At least for me. Personally I prefer the 2nd edition planescape settings. ;)

Morgoroth, you are one of the last OG's around. I hadn't even considered the similarities to Dark Sun, but now that you mention it it does remind of it in that respect, Fabius.

    Thanks for the input.

Read the Eberron books by Keith Baker? I think thats his name.

Well, so far he has released only one book called 'City of Towers' I think?

Anyway, read that and it really does get you into the feel of the game :)

Plus I believe that he created the world of Eberron

    Seems too wierd to me.

I'll stick with the "old" campaign settings, thank you very much (Forgotten Realms, Planescape, Ravenloft, Spelljammer, Dark Sun, Dragonlance, Greyhawk)

I like how everything is connected. (Well, at least it was in 2nd edition, and that is what I'm sticking with)

Again must I voice my heartfelt mourning for 2E... Then again, 3E is not that bad. It just doesn't have the feel. It feels like something different from D&D. Like one of those many other systems.

    Eberron blows. :>

But I could be biased, being that I have talked with Rich Burlew a lot. ;)

Supercool. Loving it. Not a single bad thing. And a nice shift from the NPC-godliness of FR.
