    I really hate the way David Eddings has several female characters who are smug, all knowing, bossy boots who think they can order anyone they like around. Polgara, C'Nedra, Sephrenia, Aphrael. Does anyone else feel this way.

    I think that it reflects the partnership that is David Eddings, as in husband and wife team David and Leigh Eddings, but for really annoying characters try Robert Jordan's in the Wheel of Time, they never communicate and all the women know what's the best thing to do.

    In the Rivan COdex, Eddings talks about how he tookt he traditional heronine who lanuishes in a tower and is all sorts of woe-is-me and went for something completely different. the problem? He went for the different for the sake of being different and is not handling it well. He thinks too black-and-white.

    Would you like it if it were the other way around? Then the females would then be somekind of sex toys, that any better?

    I like Eddings characters altough they are usually the same.Males are drinkers, but ready for action. Females are though, but sweet.

    I agree about Robert Jordan. Especially at the start of the first book. The wisdom who is just a young girl, so self involved with her own importance casts scorn upon the actions of the village elders. As if her position suddenly makes her wiser than she was before.

    I liked some of Eddings female characters eg Porenn, Velvet, Vella. Main characters who are not so smugly self obsessed, thinking there position gives them the right to treat people as inferiors.

    I didn't really like the Princess or whatever she was in the books with Sparhawk (or whatever his name is) but then, I didn't like Sparhawk that much either.

    I just skip entire chapters in Jordan's books when he comes to Egwene, Nynaeve, Elayne etc...I am yet to find a single interesting chapter in any of their story arcs.

    I hate those irritating female characters. As for Eddings..I haven't really read many of his books...so I cannot comment on that, but if I think they are ANYTHING like Jordan...I'll happily tear out their pages from the novel and burn them for you... :D

    Eddings was good getting me to read large novels when I was still quite young. Since then I tend to find those kind of books too lacking in originality.

    @Shadow Lurker:

    I didn't mind her character too much. On the other hand, I always felt for sorry for Sparhawk having to marry her.

    The character of Sparhawk himself was too bland- he was like the archetypical hero, without any real weaknesses. Bingo! One rather dull character coming up.
