I am interested in the strategies you have developed which allows your sorcerer, mage, multi-class mage, or dual-class mage to overcome the major obstacles of the game, such as Irenicus (SOA), Sendai, the Ravager, Melissan, etc.. I hope to learn how to more effectively use mages against high threat, high magic resistance adversaries. Currently, my mages are usually used to buff the fighters and call up Mord’s swords in such situations. Thanks for your help.

I use lots of tanks and have them kill just about everything. However against major bosses...

Before going in prepare a spell sequencer containing 3 Lower Resistances, that'll about kill all thier magic resistance. Fire that off first, then Time Stop. Right before the time stop, have Keldorn (I'd assume he's in the group, he's a mages best friend, otherwise you'll need one more round for a Remove Magic) dispel magic the target. First spell you cast under the time stop is Improved Alacrity.

Your target is already as good as dead.

Here's what I use for the kill.

    Dragon's Breath x3
    Abi-Dalzhim x5
    Chain Lightning x6
    Fire Arrow x7
    Acid Arrow x7
    Magic Missle x7

That will kill just about ANYTHING.

    Enjoy.

BTW why is Sendai listed as a major obsticle? She was the easiest of the 5 in my opinion... Abazigal (especially the improved/tougher one) was the hardest IMO. For the Ravager, just sit back and let your tanks (I had 4) beat the holy hell out of him. He falls in no time.

Maybe that has something to do with the fact that Sendai is one of the bosses in the game.

Anyway, it depends much on the fight. For Yaga-Shura, summoning spells and area affects for the small creatures work well. For one big creature, like Demogorgon or Abazigal, three lower resistances followed by damaging spells do the job. In Sendai and Amelyssan fights arcane spellcasters aren't too good, as they need to split their spells over many fights. Just use whatever you can spare. Area spells for Gromnir. And don't mention my leaving out Illasera and Balthazar, they are so laughable opponents anyone who can't take them out by melee combat has serious problems.

Sendai was easy. My mage didn't cast a single spell during that fight becuase he didn't need to.

Keldorn and Sarevok would gang up and beat the hell out of whatever statue Sendai popuped up from, (Keldorn with Carsomyr for the dispelling, of course.) while Anomen with a Globe of Blades + Aura of Firey Death + Righteous Magic + like 4 other spells boosting his abilities dispatched the Drow guards. My wild-mage and Imoen just sat back and watched. :p

This was also the Improved-Tougher fight BTW.

I believe I have been misunderstood. Every challenge in the game is now easy to me. Of the challenges, I have to be most careful with Draconis. My playing style has been mostly to buff the fighters and let them slaughter the opposition. The mages would strip spell protections, cast Mord. swords, clear riff-raff with Wilting etc.. I just wanted to know your ideas concerning making the mages a more effective part of the offense. I also realized that 3 Lower Resistance spells (and add things like Doom and Greater Malison) could make anyone vulnerable to magic. However, using this much magic would mean the mage would have to rest to recover spells. In the Melissan fight sequence, rest is hard to find. Even in the Sendai fight, where there are sequential fights, problems may arise for a solo mage. I was hoping someone had worked out better strategies. I know at least Elmonster has completed the game solo with a mage. Any more solo mages or predominantly mage parties want to offer advice?

Here's a technique to bust the holy shit out of anything with a mage:
(1)Before the battle use chain contiegency with 2x lower magi resistance and 1x GREATER Malison(sometimes malison messes it up)
(2)When you start your battle use dragon's breath to blow away all smaller opponents
(3)cast protection spell's like absolute immunity(only do this if you didn't before combay
    (4)For youre main destruction cast:
    Dragon's breathx3
    use energy blades
    Abi dalzhimsx5
    Chain lightning or sunfirex7
    A must is flame arrowx7
    magic missilex7-9(amulet)

    That should spill a few guts.But personally i think that Sendai is too easy.My main charachter(padine the paladin:cavalier's rule man)choped up any of Sendai's statues with the carmsyr+6(of course),while my cleric Cocilius:the storm shall devour you,I played a multiplayer)crushed Sendai's toy-boy drow.My other characters(Aeris the sorceror,Rumina the sorceror,Caecarius the archer,and alala the Thief/mage)got guts all over their clothes.Anyway I hope I heped.

Note:Sorry about all the names, but I like to boast about my ultimate party.

Hmmm. Perhaps, I should just use the magic I know will work - from a projected image or simulacrum. No rest. What do you all think?

I now that sleep is hard to find in some places, but without using your mages to their full offensive capability, well how should i put this,DONT TAKE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To your latest reply:I think that mages should be used to attack and to defend only themselves. They are a powerful but complex asset.Adios I am going to another topic(maybe). Also I suggest taking a sorceror

Contact me as soon as possible(for future refernce a.s.a.p:as soon as possible)

[IMG] For the series of batles with Melissan only one word: Wish

This spell is more powerful than you can imagine.(Especially if you have some items like Ring of Wizardry and Ring of Acquity and Circlet of Netheril)Remember your Mage needs the most spells he/she can memorise, give him/her items that improve this ability.

If you don't have high wisdom for the wish spell use some potions.

And btw there is nothing better when you do the following 2 Wishes the one after the other:

    - 25 in all stats for all party members for 4 rounds
    - Double length Time Stop with Improved Alacrity

This way even a solo mage can defeat EVERYTHING.

[IMG] Padine what are you doing? He'll spot the PM without special advertisements. I don't think he is blind or something.

Look, in case you've missed it, there is a nice thing called FAQ you should read. Inside it you'll find why some posts like that "you have PM!!!" don't have a place in a thread that is titled "Effective magic users".

Don't make me more deleting/locking business than I want.
