For some reason people feel the need to harp on about "The Secret" a book that touches briefly and in a hysterically creepy manner on the concept of 'Laws of Attraction' derived in part from the scientific theories on the laws of affinity/attraction (depending on the level of development of the laws)

The truth is the there are more 'self help' books published like 'The Secret' simply because they minimise on key aspects which make things work. For example, The Secret and a similar subset of books play on the works on Positive Thinking. Instead of taking the levels of Positive Thinking as a form of motivation and clarification on what is required and necessary they act like thinking nice happy thoughts are in essence the only effort required to ACHIEVE anything!

    Ridiculous.

If all it took was somebody wanting something REALLY HARD then the world would be in pretty bad nick by now I imagine.

The four stages outlined in the bastardised 'Laws of Attraction' are:
    1) Know your desires and ask the universe for it.
    2) Focus on your desire enthusiastically.
    3) Act like you have your desires.
    4) Be open to recieving it.

Which to be honest read like a broken copy of the Four Pillars and instead of being a tool for planning and action has become a instrument of false hope and self deception.

The Four Pillars themselves are: To Know, To Will, To Dare and To Keep Silent

To Know - to clarify what it is you require and prioritise steps towards achieving what is needed. Essentially, plan what you need to do to achieve what you want... Not asking the universe for it. Sorting out your own personal desires and means.

To Will - Focus and discipline, your will is what keeps your focus, it is what drives you and stops you settling or giving up something as unobtainable without proper care it's the part of your mind that grumbles something can't happen for this that and the other reasons which are minor on their own but you can't help but think of them as one big lump of NOT HAPPENIN' LOL. It's also the part that's abused by advertising companies, commonly advertising and reviews play on the part of your own willpower, like a crutch it props up your will and lets it hobble around going "Let's get this!" a stronger will can improve your drive for true personal wishes alongside resisting what you percieve you *should* want instead.

To Dare - boiled down to the core this could be interpreted as 'wishing' but to draw it down to that level is to end up with ask the universe nicely. In truth it's the vigor that drives you to act on your will. To Dare is to ask out that woman who two days ago you were looking at wistfully while your under exercised will whispered she was out of your legue. To Dare is to try new foods or new activities to fulfill a desire for interest, excitement or simple expansion of sensation. To Dare is to give a shot at haggling with that salesman with the cheap smile and overconfident posture. To Dare is to notice opportunity more, this may mean actively seeking what you wish - this could also mean simply being more in tune with what's happening around you, it's when you go from wanting that car from the local garage to noticing there's one just down the road from the bus stop with a nice price tag and 'ONO' on the windscreen.

To Keep Silent - This might come across as an odd one, but think about it. Like the wise old owl, the less he spoke the more he heard. This is in essence a monitoring stage, being perceptive and receptive without being a pest. It's one thing to give a shop your number and request a call when they have something in stock, it's a different thing to phone every day or turn up asking why nobody has called you back. This stage does have a level of expectation to it, the stage of keeping silence is where the effort you put in unfolds into the expected outcome, it is the stage where you see the fruits of your labour - and as a result if it was enough or not. If it was not enough then you need to go through it all and critically evaluate what you did and how you did it. Not a simply "I must have thought something negative!" it's a case of "How can I motivate myself to do more, and what avenues did I not explore appropriately?"

The pillars are of action, thought and personal evaluation - not dreams, hopes and a mystical interpretation of what you may or may not deserve.
