    How much do you think it would effect the game if I made elves closer to humans in regards to size. I just can't buy them as 5' to 5'6", picture and noble elf cavalryman making a charge on his...pony? I can't think of anything that it would really effect if I made this change but maybe one of you could.

    There are no real problems with changing them to roughly human height. They actually did that in FR, where elves are supposed to be tall but slim.

    size of the character, within the broad categories (ie medium) has no game effect and can be easily modified to suit personal preference.

    Btw, most real world 'noble cavalry' were not especially taller than your 5'6" elf example, so I'm not sure why that bothers you.

    I have to admit I'm not much for the basic rules, and since i'm not using FR, and elves vary in different books, I boosted their average height to 5'5".
    There were cases of two elven characters reaching 6', but it was considered incredibly rare, because their bloodline was of a particular elven type that I created.
    "Old school" D&D players don't always like the idea, but they are very similar to drow in some ways.

    I don't think it was the height that bothered him it was probably cavlryman on a pony that bugs him. I would put cavlryman on a full size horse regardless of race except for hobbits and halflings and dwarves.

    Yeah, halflings would be best on a riding dog, for a dwarf, a donkey or poney. I'm thinking donkey, because I wonder who would out-stubborn the other ;)

    Give the elf a light horse. I think it fits them.
