[IMG] The whole enchanting thing is a little inconsistent, but overall I like it.

The main problem I have is that there are plenty of items with more than three or four enchantments on them, but we as high level characters are limited to three and even at Epic levels are limited to four.

Now, sure, I understand it's a balance issue and if we had unlimited enchanting ability we could make some crazy items (I mean, we already can in fact ;) ).

But sometimes you have an item that has a bunch of enchantments on it that are really just so-so, and you'd like to improve it just a bit with an enchantment. Well too bad! It already is past its enchantment limit!

A perfect example for me is armor. I'm running a Ranger, so the armors I find are usually fine and interesting enough. I had some kind of "Shroud of the Leopard" or something that was reasonably good looking and provided a few interesting plusses and the ability to cast a Dex enchancing spell, but nothing spectacular. So I wanted to add some Regeneration to it. Nope! Can't do it!

So instead, I grabbed some generic +5 Leather Armor, added immunity to critical hits and sneak attacks and +5 regeneration to it. Much more satisfying as armor for my Ranger, but just not as flavorful if you know what I mean.

So, what I think would be much better is to at least have one or two slots available for player enchantments on everything regardless of how many things are already built into it by the designers.

    How say you?

you always need to be on the lookout for really powerful but still enchantable items

Hmm, it would be awesome, but like you said in places it would cause a severe balance isue. Imagine having a staff of the magi (For a random example) and adding 6d6 fire damage and +5 vampiric regeneration... You gotta admit it would be a little over powered. It was already a little funny when my level 28 Warlock was bashing out 30-40 damage per hit with a fire staff

TBH, I can't imagine an epic-level mage - or even warlock - thwacking away with a staff. When you have spent so long to get reality by the scrotum, beating your enemies with a piece of wood - enchanted or not - seems a little... underwhelming.

I think if there was some way to limit the power of an item based on your level rather than a limit on the number of enchantments, that would make for a better balance.

I mean, there's some way that the required Lore score for identifying items is calculated, so couldn't something like that be used rather than an arbitrary "number of enchantments" limit?

Well with a warlock, eldritch blast gets just a tad boring if that's all you do ;) Plus what's the point of being able to use medium armour with no penalties if you're not gonna dive into the fray!

One of my biggest complaints, seems like all the almost great stuff should be open to upgrading from +1 with everything else I want to plus 3/4/5 without being stopped by a "3 enchantment limit"!
