By all accounts behaving themselves today, good to hear.

It's great that bar the home nation, we have yet again took the largest amount of fans over for the tournament. 50,000 expected to be going, even Spain who are just a short hop over the border cant take that many.

Fantastic stuff, wonder if there's no trouble whether we'll lose the negative image we have. Two major championships without any trouble :D . Then again, I don't suppose theres any chance of that with Sepp Blatter in charge of FIFA. We could hav the friendliest fans in the World and he'd still say "Any trouble and your out!" :o

The reason why there is no trouble is because the hooligans are not in Portugal.

And the reason why they didn't start a riot in Japan/Korea, is probably because they saw footage of the local police practicing with Samurai blades. :D

Or maybe it was simply too far away for most of them. I'm sorry, but everywhere where the English national team goes, a horde of cavemen follows in their slipstream. There are plenty of goodwilling English fans, but there are also thousands who don't give a damn about football and only go because it gives them an opportunity to rumble. During Euro 2000 here in the Netherlands they were only chanting racist lyrics and stuff about worldwar 2. What the hell has worldwar 2 to do with football ?

Yeah, you get idiots who aren't bothered about footy and go for the fighting. Get that a lot. Thankfully those people have their passports taken off them while the tournament is on.

    But thats entirely my point.

The English FA have sorted things out yet still we are attached to a football hooliganism stigma that the World seems to love to hate. Bless 'em.

If only they knew the amount of ribbing English fans get from rival fans who try to rile them up because of their reputation. The Turkish are twice as bad as English fans are yet hardly get a mention. They actually use knifes and stab people at games. They are proper ****ed in the head and the FIFA need to look at them rather than keep their overly beady eyes in the erong place all the time.

Yeah, i know all about the rivalry between the Turks and the English, ever since Leeds went to Istanbul. But you gotta admit, burning Turkish flags in downtown Istanbul is one of the dumbest things imaginable. What were they thinking ? I'm surprised only two Leeds fans died that day, the police could have opened fire on them for such a thing. You won't find more proud nationalistic people in Europe than the Turks, so burning their flag in the middle of Istanbul..... gee, you gotta have a real deathwish if you decide to go down that road.

But the English carry knifes as well, i've seen it with my own eyes. That's not a "Turks only" thing. And the Germans and Dutch are armed too these days. Hell, even Polish fans come to games with baseballbats, knifes, and god knows what else. I've seen em here in Utrecht this year, when FC Utrecht was playing some Polish team in the UEFAcup. Completely drunk, or stoned, or whatever. They're catching up quite fast with western Europe.

Fcuk 'em. We ain't scared of 'em. I was only saying that Turkish are far worse at 'inciting' violence. Most England 'hooligans' only fight if the fight is there already. I assume that the only happened because the Turkish had done far worse before than what they did that night. Whenever and English team plays in Turkey you get guys with 'WELCOME TO HELL' posters and 'slit throat' signs. They really big themselves up and seem to love hatred and
killing. They are far worse at inciting fights than we are. Our boys are sound if you leave 'em well alone. Fcuking 'em off is when they fight. Most of the time anyway. But like any other country, we have 'fans' (I use the term vert loosely) who go for the fighting.

All I'm trying to display in the thread is the hooliganism stigma on our boys need not be there. Or at least give other trouble makers in other countries the same treatment we get. Because, to be quite frank, a lot of the time its over-zealous police that start their own fires. Some fans get treated quite appallingly sometimes.

Thankfully, the bobbies in Portugal seem chilled out and relaxed. So I strongly doubt there will be any trouble. (Unlesss we lose the frogs of course! :p )

Yes and most of them ride horses and carry uzi's (no kiddin') so if I were you I wouldn't piss them off.

I must admit Mors that england does have the best system againt Hooligans (of course with that kind of experience but still), stadium bans are a good way. We in the netherlands still allow hooligans inside stadiums even if they did the worst kind of violance. Luckily they don't attend tournaments like this and if I may say so the Dutch fans are one of the more fun fans while on a EC or WC.

It IS a shame that a small handful of those lunatic English soccer 'supporters' give the rest of the real English fans a bad name. Here's hoping they continue to behave themselves.

I must have seen another match then. The French were in possession of the ball 80% of the game, completely dominating the English. They just couldn't create a decent scoringopportunity because the English defense was well organised this time.

Petty that England lost this day, this won't be good for the riots. And to top it off there was already one small riots versus the Portuguese.

Now they have both lost their matches........ohoh

Oh and Pacman was right on with his analysis of the game. That's the benefit of being a neutral viewer, you see what's actually happens.

Well, Pac Man wasn't soo right. Did you see the Sweden versus Argentina game in 2002? Argentina was the best team, but Sweden played best. It was the same here, France was the best team, but England played best.

I don't know football ? Then tell me, which team was in constant possession of the ball ? Which team was with their backs against the wall most of the time ?

The only thing you can blaim the French is that they didn't create any scoringopportunities. Don't take it out on me, blame your captain instead. If he made that penalty, England would have won.

Pac Man, I am right now, for some reason God wouldn't even know, watching the game again, and I tell ya, France doesn't have all that advantage. Sure, they have a bit more possession, and are more in attack, but England that is jsut what Sven-Göran Eriksson wanted. The game went perfectly well until he decided to replace Wayne Rooney with Emile Heskey and Heskey screwed up.
