    In a word: YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!

Great game that I found. Michael Vaughan played a captains game and really carried the team, in all aspects (taking wickets, having a great innings, good fielding). Australias strength is basically no weaknesses. Any one of their players can go in and slap a few balls around. Then they have the real big hitters like Gilchrist, Symonds, Martyn etc. They are World #1 for a reason, they are the best!

We haven't beaten the old enemy in one day for about 5 years I think! Super stuff.

Really pleased with Tresco, he just went in, Mr Experienced and just slowly poked the ball about the park and topped up his runs. And his bogey man, Glenn McGrath got smacked about a bit! Plus, Brett Lee's figures were looking a bit dire until he took Vaughan and Freddie (shame he didn't get his eye in... that irriates me about Freddie, he can hit the wickedest spins or the meanest 95m/ph bowls, but chuck him a dolly and he gets caught!). Good team performance all around by England, I felt.
Watching Symonds get run out, hobbling after taking a ball to his foot was pretty funny, LOL! I was really frightened by him, I thought he was gonna go in and boundary every ball! Taking him for a duck was a big bonus.

Shame that game wasn't the final truth be told! Now we have to go and play Pakistan or West Indies in the final, which the lads won't be very up for! But anyway, go go go England!

    Bring on the Ashes! :D

Well done England (see - I don't mind the England cricket team). Lucky that Michael Vaughn finally came through with a decent one-day innings (his one day record is still appalling though).

Damn shame that we beat you in the recent one-day series but then lost to Australia while you guys managed to clean them up easily. So the ICC Champions Trophy still remains the one international competition that Australia just can't seem to win. Ha ha Ricky Ponting.

But don't get too cocky. I'd still bet my money on Australia retaining the Ashes easily.

Yeah, Vaughns one day average is still like, 25 or something daft, so he owed the team a good innings.

Was gutted when we lost to N.Z. But we then beat India in one days after that (granted, Tendulka was out). To be honest, I thought I our team was about as suited to one days matches and chocolate is well suited for a fire guard. But the lads really did the country proud today!

I think we can come as close to taking back the Ashes as we ever will next year!

I just love the beat the Aussies, I love it. Especially at their sport, lol. Cricket is about 3rd or 4th in England list of popular sports!

I didn't see the game! Heard this morning England wiped the floor with Oz. At first I thought Harmison must have rolled them for under 150, but was really surprised to find out England's batsmen won the game for them. A great feat considering Australia's potent bowling attack. Well done England.

Harmisons figures were pretty poor to be honest. 1 for 53 or something. That is another pelasing thing, neither Flintoff or Harmy (our 2 star guys) didn't really do much, but we still beat the Aussies, quality!

Cricket is really the only team sport that is played at the top level across the whole of Australia. Rugby, for example is only really big in isolated parts of Sydney. In Melbourne, the Wallabies barely get a mention in the newspapers. That's what makes it so galling when they manage to do so well at a sport that they don't even care about.

Still, don't get carried away. It was only one match and cricket is funny enough game that upsets can occur. That's why the real 'test' will be the full-on Ashes series where you will have to perform at the level day-in and day-out. Good luck.

I thought that 250 was a good score on the English grounds. The bowlers really let Australia down.
Specially Brett Lee. What was he doing, sleep-bowling?
He hardly mixed up his deliveries and his bouncers were never so close as to be trouble.

England had lost their last 14 1dayers to Australia. Good luck against West Indies ;) I hope :D

Oh well, since England can't win at football, the world gotta give them something. :D

Sorry, Morsmordre, but I would quite like to see the West Indies win this final. They've had a pretty tough year and the neutral observer always goes with the underdog. I hope for a good high-scoring match with the Windies snatching the win off the last ball. Maybe with Gough getting 5 wickets in what might be his last big game.

No, sorry, while admitting being a sucker for the underdog (being English and all!) I'm afraid that England have suffered mediocracy so long in cricket, I just want some glory!

I just hope Lara is still concussed come Saturday! Saying that, I hope Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo have something bad happen to them between now and Saturday aswell!

    This match scares me...

The Windies will have need of something magical to best the English on saturday.

It will be interesting however if Lara comes out onto the pitch in the same murderous mood as yesterday.

It will be interesting if Lara has suffered anything from that knock on the head from Shoaib Akhtar.

Yeah that one was nasty. I quite like Shoaib "Chucktar" though. He is entertainment plus.

Well, Morsmordre, I can understand your happiness. Normally the teams I support sit at the wrong end of the ladder (Nottingham Forest, Richmond, Cincinnati). But I guess this makes up for us handing England its *** last time we played soccer, huh? THAT should teach you not to run a juniors squad for the second half (who did better than the senior side, might I add).

But any team can win on any day - the Ashes will be the real test (no pun intended).

And as for the rugby... I may be from Melbourne, but don't get me started about the rugby World Cup. You have every reason to be chuffed, given that it took seven years of constant planning and a strategy that goes against the entire concept of rugby (ie: try-scoring) - if England hadn't won that, it would have been in full retreat from Australian sporting dominance in rugby, cricket AND soccer. But hey, at least the All-Blacks didn't win it, and it forced a whole bunch of New Zealanders I know to barrack for Australia - something I never thought I'd see. New Zealanders barracking for Aussies is like Canadians barracking for the United States - the kind of legend you tell your grandkids about.

Lee is over-rated. Australia's vulnerability is that our best players are getting too old, and no-one coming up has the international experience to take over from them. McGrath isn't as good as he used to be (though still good), and Lee has always been a wildcard - when he's on, he's great, but when he isn't, you start praying for a shoulder injury.

McGrath is ever impressive. He can get smacked for consecutive boundaries... and then he'll get you out. I agree though, Australia's players are getting a bit old, and some of the up and coming bowlers are not of the McGrath/Gillespie echelon.

Still bitter about the Rugby World Cup which we deserved to win? How cute.

It's nice of you Aussies to still be so pleased about beating England in a meaningless friendly (against our second string). Awww, bless.

Might I remind people that England in recent times have lost only 3 competitive football games. Allow me to run those by you:

Brazil (no.1 team in the world) - Jammy Ronaldinho free kick.

France (no. 2 team in the world) - Jammy last 2 minutes. 'Calamity' James special!

Portugal (home nation and one of the best teams in the world) - Perfectly good goal dissallowed which ost us the win.

    *ahem*

As soon as you are willing to apologise, I will be here.

    Thank you.

    Your Better.
