Anyone here enjoy watching Anime? I am not exactly what you would call a hardcore Otaku, but I do enjoy some Animes, such as Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Ghosts in the shell, etc etc. Most of them provide a good plot, nice animation, and are just relaxing to watch. Characters are amusing and interesting. Dunno how to describe it, just like it.

And I would like to differentiate between Anime and Hentai. Anime is NOT pornography, Hentai is. I personally think Hentai is disgusting, but that is a different story.

    I'm a Last exile fangirl :D

I have had a random liking to anime for a while now, but it was the OIEI Anime ALlnighter that got me hiooled... I don't actively look for new stuff or anything, but I appreciate what I can get my handds on.

Besides, I like Inu Yasha as well, although I've never watched it. Blame a friend of mine :D

Anime is like Japanese RPG's. They seek to invoke emotions in the observer. For this trait I love them. Good plots, far better humour than in western movies, and musics graphics and action far outweighing any that I've ever seen in the western film-making.

I watch animes, too. I really like them, because most of them have a really good story. My favourites are Neon Genesis Evangelion or Detective Conan.

I like Anime too! What I like about them is the animation it's just so different from our western animation. I must say I'm really a Gundam Fan! But I also like Evangelion, Escaflownee, and Bersek (Sp?)and I watch them in their original language, with subtitle of course...

I like it, too. Especially the great series "Lain" which I never finished watching. :( Cowboy Beebop is IMHO really good too, as are "Hellsing", "Record of Lodoss War", "The Hakkenden", "MD Geist" and the all-time classic "Akira".
Well, the last three I never really understood, but I enjoyed them all the same.

I've seen one Anime show (and been serious about it): Big O (okay, I know, probably not the best name). It was pretty good. All mysterious and intriguing. I think it's the Noir genre of Anime, or whatever you call it.

Practically, I don't have any contact with moving Anime, only still pictures. When I was a kid, I very much enjoyed those toons that were playing right before I went to school and right after I got back.

So, as I said, now it's only pics and not often. Also games. I like them, not all of them, but some. I especially like the light-hearted atmosphere, so wonderfully trivial and so world-wisely banal. I don't know, like the lost highschool times? It may be. I always experience a great feeling of loss when playing them.

A bit of that also refers to, surprisingly, pics. I don't like the XXX plastic porn with girls whose thighs are obviously twice wider than mine while their waist is twice narrower than a single breast and, of course, tentacles everywhere and not a slightest illusion of consent

But some of them are cute... They're oh so... oh well, cute. Have I mentioned cute? Need to give up on them ere I turn thirty, though. It might grow into a bad habit.

Why, by Bane's mercy, am I babbling about anime all of a sudden? Must be my old friend I met today. She's pale and her copper hair is somewhere between locks and curly. She's medium tall, slim and wears ankle-long matching coats over black clothes.

For all you ignorant fools out there, know the difference between Anime and Hentai by referring to the first post in this topic. If you don't, then to use a term found in the Warcraft 3 forums extremely frequently, STFU: Shut the 4-letter-word up. No self-righteous arrogance is needed here.

Big fan here, though I haven't really seen a lot of Anime yet. Although that depends on whether DBZ, Zoids and Astro Boy count. My favourites that I know would probably count are Akira, Ninja Scroll (is THAT Hentai? I know it has some pornographic scenes), Neon Genesis Evangelion and Bubblegum Crisis. Also didn't mind Cowboy Bebop, Gundam Wing and Gasaraki.

Looking from the previous couple o' posts, it would seem that no self-righteous arrogance is needed by anyone. :mommy:

But on topic, there are a bunch of other cartoons, like Pokemon or cartoons with similar drawing styles, that seem like Anime. But do those count?

Er... not that I watch that stuff. Babysitting, of course.

@Oaz - hey, don't knock Pokemon! Mad cool show that. Admittedly annoying at times but still good viewing. BTW what happened to "only 150 to collect"?

And I just remembered another one, the name of which I'm not sure on, but it was something about a Spirit Detective named Yusuke who died and came back to life when the girl he liked kissed his comatose body's lips.

Maybe a little :yot: but other similar shows I'm not ashamed to say I watch are Yu-Gi-Oh and Beybladez. although I do only watch them becuase my son watches them and it gives us something we can both talk about on the odd occasion that I DO get to talk to him. Cardcaptors was pretty cool too.

But yeah, DO they count as anime? As Oaz said, they have similar drawing styles, but I'm no expert.

Patlabor series, you must watch this. Nothing awfully special, everything are just little things and little things make it funny. You would think, after watching the series, being a little thing is a bless.

There are a few ways to differenciate Anime from U.S. cartoons. One of the most direct way, the eyes. The whole Japanese cartoonists and their drawing style are much influenced by their own earlier master (i don't know his name in Japnese nor English but only Chinese). He pretty much set the style from Japanese cartoons (comic and anime) drawing.
Another way to see through Anime is their hair, much influence from nowadays Dragon Balls creator. Their hairs come in different colors, some might even be purple, redish purple, gold and so on. Also, the main male character of 2nd-graded cartoonists tends to have stand-up hairs, like Gouku of Dragon Ball.

Scary thought: The most popular children's TV show ever (as in, it's been aired non-stop since before I was born...) is actually an anime. I didn't realze it until some time ago, when I watched an episode for the first time in years. But what can I say? I never liked that show, unlike most of my peers...

Can someone tell me one thing about this "Hellsing" anime... is there anyone named "Sharon" or something simoilar in it? Because the allmighty Mickey of OIEI named my character in the Mars 3 "Sharon Hellsing" I want to know how bad a revenge that deserves.... :p

Okay, I admit... I like DBZ as well. I know it's not that good compared to some, but it's so hilarious and... if I say more, I'll get the wrath of Tal directed to me.

    I just like it, 'kay?

Vegetaaaaaa... and Trunks. I actually spent some quality time on a wonderful DBZ board about two years ago before the owner of it decided he didn't like being poor and folded everything up.

I have a general smattering of affection for most animes. Pet shop of Horrors is the new one, Vampire Hunter D (mmmmm... D), I'm hoping to get the first few tapes of Ninja Scroll soon. Anime AND manga, which of course is similiar and yet quite different and not even being discussed :D

Forgive my ignorance, but what IS the difference between manga and anime? I've always thought they were synonyms...

Manga = Comic (as in, still-image cartoon series for example... spiderman, x-men etc, you know)
Anime = Animation (speaks for itself)

The words are basically direct translations. Still, for us westerners it's become a custom to call Japanese comics 'manga', and Japanese animation 'anime'.
