Well after wandering the wilderness for a good long time I have decided to re-purchase the entire BG series. Folly perhaps as I have a large workload at the moment, you wouldn't believe how much work goes into opening a new superstore, but non the less I have done it and I intend to play it through as the same charecter.

Now the reason I post this is because I have completed BG2 enough times to write a million guides and walkthroughs on it yet I havent done more than get to the Friendly Arm Inn in the original so I'm looking to draw upon your experience. What types of charecters have you enjoyed most and why? And yes I enjoy Roleplaying much more than powergaming.

For BG1, I prefer single class characters, particularly the specialist mages, who were the funnest for me. I like to develop a character in a single area rather than tinker in several. It gives me a better sense of "this is my destiny" I usually like to employ in a true role-playing game. Feels more epic. Plus, since the cool mage items in BG1 are few and far between, I feel like I have to rely more on my wits and strategy than that cool new armor or weapon I just picked up. This reliance on intelligence rather than brute strength is precisely what makes a mage successful, and keeps me in my "role." Plus, whenever I do get a new mage item I feel all cool and justified. :)

I usually stick to good alignment too, because I like my characters to resemble my personality. I just can't play evil - I don't know why. It just feels too wrong, even if it's just a game. Go figure. Because of this alignment predeliction of mine, I often pick a Ranger or Paladin if I feel like being a warrior.

As he stated...I've got the 'play yourself as the main character' syndrome. I've only ever been able to play 3 classes in my BG career: Mage, Thief, Ranger, or some combination thereof. They are the 'thinking' classes of D&D, and that's what i do best in these types of games. Again, I play for the story, so ever since I got BGII, ive never been able to get myself to remove Jaheira, Khaleid, Minsc, or Dynaheir from the party.

    <shrugs>

Dont force a class on yourself...make the character as close to yourself as possible. It's the most fun.

I'm playing a Halfling Cleric at the moment, and thoroughly enjoying the character, both from a mechanical perspective and a role-playing/characer development perspective.
I've also had good fun with a Ranger and a Fighter/Thief, and I'd imagine a Bard would be fun, too.

Hmmm perhaps, but then I have done that in just about every game and it does get a little tiresome. I was just wondering what other people enjoyed. I'm currently thinking of taking a Mage through the game but im not entirlely sure yet.

By the way, (I'm being careful not to spoil the storey for the 0.01% of people that aint played BG2 :p ) isn't one of the characters you wouldnt want to kick out dead in BG2 :p

I have a CN Bard that I'm using in 2 separate parties. The Good party has the members they wanted you to complete the game with(according to the beginning of BGII), and I'm still tossing around ideas for the Evil party ;)

I am also unable to play an evil char, and I always have Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc and Dynaheir too :p
It's for the sake of the story, but it is quite annoying :p

Well, your picture and motto make it difficult to believe.
Yes it's annoying, the other NPCs weren't placed there just no to be used.
Maybe it would have been cool if your squad had been in the beginning of BG2, and not the story squad.

[IMG] I personally really like Clerics and if you make yourself neutral you can get away with anything.
I have managed to get a reputation of 20 (max) with my dwarf cleric and it does get annoying when Jahera complains at you but it can be funny.
Imowen is the most annoying and pointless charater I have come across and get rid of her in Beregost.
My Cleric has Str,Dex,Con and Wis of 18 so they cant be all that bad. But go with your favourite class.

Multi-classed characters are more powerful in BGI, because you are only about 1 level behind everyone else. Of course, if you plan on playing through BGII, then multi-classed character lag quite a bit behind their single-classed counterparts. Then again, if you go to ToB, you get HLA's for both classes, meaning multiclasses are, once again, probably more powerful than single classes. It's a personal choice. My personal favorite is half-elf, cleric/mage.

For good parties, the best combo to play, as everyone else pretty much has stated, is Minsc, Jaheria, Khalid, Dynaheir, and Imoen, although I usually let Dynaheir die and pick up either Coran or Ajantis.

For evil parties (much more fun in my opinion), the best combination would be Kaigan, Shar-Teel, Vicinia, Montoron, and either Xzar or Edwin.
