Hello. I'm playing this game for the first time, and having a blast. However, I've run into a problem.

I've only just gotten Fall-From-Grace and Ignus into my party, and Fall-From-Grace is ready to Level Up for the first time. But, whenever I click the Level Up button on her stat screen, regardless of where I am or who's in the party, the game crashes and I get the following error message:

An assertion failed in F:bad:Torment\Source\baldur\CRuleTables.cpp at line number 1327.

    Help!

For further information, I'm playing on a Dell Inspiron 1525, with the official patch, a full install, and the following mods, listed in the order of installation:

    The Bigg's Widescreen Mod
    Ghostdog's User Interface Mod
Qwinn's Fixpack, Unfinished Business, and Tweaks Mods (in that order)

I pretty much followed this guide doing it.

What does the message mean, and how can I fix it?

Too many mods for the first playthrough... you should only stick to the official patch and Platter's or potentially Qwinn's fixpack. Throw in the widescreen mod if you really can't bear to play the game without it. But everything else should be reserved for consequent playthroughs. That error is almost certainly caused by one of the mods that you installed.

But that's what gets me. I uninstalled all but the fixpack and the widescreen mod, without which my save files are useless, then reinstalled the entire game.

    Nothing.

There's probably some residual problem left over in your saved games - a fresh install of both the game and those two mods without using old savegames will probably be required.

    Fudgestockings.

Would I miss any character interaction if I instead used character editors and a list of 2e rules to manually alter her stats and things without an actual level up? I've yet to find one that can alter her spell slots, but I might be able to find a chart of her level up growth somewhere...

And risk corrupting the save games or character records again? Also, I don't think there are any editors that would do everything that'd you need to do to manually do a level-up. Especially since Torment only loosely adheres to the 2e rules, so it's unlikely that you could improvise a level-up that would be identical to the game's own.

    *sigh*

Twenty odd hours of my life down the drain.

Ah, well. I've still got the discs. Maybe I'll reinstall it in a few months and start over...

:bad: Not that this generally happens when you install mods, but it's one of the reasons to play with as few as possible (read none) at least the first time through.

    It's just...

I don't really like replaying games. That's why I try to complete the whole thing on the first try, without having to replay it dozens of times for every little thing.
