I'm probably being really thick here but how on earth do you get a familiar?
I've got 2 good mages (lvl 12+13) both which have the familiar spells but all I get is the message "must be cast by the protaganist".
I've even tried getting my mages to cast the spells on each other with no luck.
    What am I missing here?

I had that same problem. I can't summon a familiar either.

    ....what does Protagaonist mean?

    =)

[IMG] The protagonist is the main character in the story. That would be you!

[IMG] You can only summon a familiar if your main character (that is, the one you create or import at the beginning of the game) is a mage class character.
It won't work for any other mages you have in the party...

You won't really use a familiar anyhow. It'll be neat to start off with, but otherwise useless later on in the game.

    Syl...

Well the extra hit points it gives you definitely aren't useless... A small price to pay for keeping my lil dragon safe in the backpack. ;)
