This time around we're checking how much fantasy reading you've done last year.

I've read at least 10 Xanth novels alone. (love 'em! even the later, less popular books).

    Re-read the cleric quintet(5, obviously!).

Read the acts of caine series by Matthew Woodring Stover (the three that are out).

Read a couple of the sword of truth series (I'm off and on with this series, I get really into it and enjoy it, and then there's a pointless sex scene).

Read the last of the renshai series (three books, less known work by Mickey Zucher Reichert, but just as good as her renshai chronicles, if not better.)

    I'm sure I've read more in 2009, but I can't recall everything.

Don't read too much fantasy these days. Maybe 4-6. Possibly a couple more, when counting Disk World... Couldn't even begin to name them though.

I didn't count Disk World, but if I did the number would sky rocket, haha. Good taste Rotku. ^^

It's Discworld, you bozos! :shake: Much to my shame, I haven't read any books in the last 3 years . Shocking, I know. But I can barely keep up with newspapers and various free and subscribed magazines. Actually, I've even got a stack of unread issues of a gaming magazine going back 2 years. This is what happens when something major occupies your real life over a longer term. The time you previously had available for things like reading books just isn't there any more. I seriously hope I can get out of this in the next 6 months. If nothing else, I miss delving into a good book. Not to mention I could build a pretty tall tower out of all the unread books on my shelves. :bad:

[IMG] I've been struggling through a few books over the past couple of years, read about three last year and started a fourth... which I'm still reading :o It's only about 400 pages but just having a hard time focus on it.

Really need to finish it so I can get started on its sequal though!

I normally have 3/4 books on the go at the same time. One of the reasons that we bought our house was that it had a rather large study which we use as a library. Unfortunately, we've filled it and had to put a load more bookcases in our bedroom

I didn't read any fantasy books in 2009. I was actually rereading Anne Rice's vampire chronicles. Although supernatural, I don't consider them to be fantasy.

[IMG] Sometimes they're just considered horror, or some fantasy is considered 'folk lore' instead.

Sometimes they're just splitting hairs though :p

I read about 30-40 fantasy books a year. Just about all of which are Medieval/Sci-fi Fantasy, nothing futuristic. I prefer magic and swords over lasers and aliens. I also re-read alot. Oddly enough, I am currently reading my grandfather's "5th Division" book. He was a WWII vet, fought under Patton, got hit twice at the Battle of the Bulge. The book is a chronicle of his division's movements and battle breakdowns during the war. It's pretty awesome stuff! :) My other grandpop landed at Omaha beach on D-Day, but I have been unable to get my aunt's to let me peruse his war chronicles. They're stingy.

Voted 16 or more - I am not sure of the exact number, probably around twenty (more, if re - reads count). Hard to find something, well, anything both good and new after ten or more years of adoring the genre. Read the Anita Blake novels this year, too. The series should be renamed 'Everyone Has Lots of Sex' after the fifth one or so.

If you like a fairly good series derailing into necro porn, 'tis so indeed.:D

Haha, that is a problem for me with many a series (for me most recently it has been the Sword of Truth series; never seen such a curve ball... "demon sex with girl to gain magical power" sounds more like a crazy Japanese porn plot than something you would find in a fantasy novel). ^.^

I think sometimes an author should just write a softcore porno and get it out of their system, then move back to their non-sex-centric series. Sadly being open with ones sexuality has been widely held as a social taboo since the fall of ancient Rome... but that's another topic.

[IMG] If a sex scene is relevant, it's one matter. If the author has clearly been writing far too much and neglected their partner in certain activities, it's evident and another matter entirely :D
