Inspired by my last "Lost things found anew" post's idea, I thought I'd make a new one with the idea of you all telling about the strangest few events of your lives. Things that are real, no lies made to add flourish to the story. Things that you may still not understand, but have always been there for you to wonder and think of. Things, that had they ended up in any other way, might have ended your life even. Now the life/death question is not a must, but it has to be a question of a very powerful thing nevertheless. Not the small wonders of life, not this time anyhow.

As usual, as a topic starter I should give an example. I've almost been run over by a train, I've had to run from a rather violent individual 3 years older than me when I was 6 or 7. And I've learned to appreciate the wonder that is adrenaline through these both events. However, the strangest thing that I can remember is this:

I was around 11 years old, and with a "friend" of mine, we had gone out on ice during the spring. There was no one big ice covering the surface of the waters, just huge blocks of it here and there, gathered to the beach. By jumping from one block to another, we had made it to around 20-40m away from the beachline. We were just looking at the sea from there, wondering about this and that. I remember (believe me, I remembered a lot from that event) looking back to where we had come from, out to the sea and all, to every direction. The ice, the water, everything. Nothing was out of the normal. Suddenly this friend I'm with yells his lungs out that we have to leave, and starts running and jumping back towards the land. I'm a bit confused but I follow with him (note that the ice was slippery and though in large and heavy blocks, it did react to our wieght so moving on it wasn't as fast as you might think). Halfway to the beach is when the weird thing happened. All around us, the ice blocks started to crack and break apart (blow apart would be more fitting to say). The sound was so hard that my head hurt. We hastened our speed to the beach and I still wondered what the heck was going on. I remember explicitly watching the surface of the water and all, searching for some beast or something trying to catch us, (young and full of imagination as I was) only to remember later on that really there was nothing to be seen that could have caused it. We did reach the beach however. There were perhaps 2-3 dozen (around 20-30) ice blocks when we came to the beach, and the 2-5 behind us, right AT the beach were the only ones that had not cracked to pieces.

I don't remember what he told me exactly when I asked about how he knew. All I do remember is that he didn't either know, couldn't say, or wouldn't say it to me. I got a trauma for that so that for several years after I watched the surface of the seas whenever I was swimming or doing something near the water. The same shimmer, of the surface of the water I saw then I've seen numerous times after and come to the conclusion that it had nothing to do with it. So even now, I'm still at a loss. There was no sound, nothing to be seen, no logical reason whatever for why ALL of the ice would suddenly break apart and for some reason he could sense it before it happened. All I know is that without him, I would have drowned to death that day. An isolated place as it was, and you try to swim through tens of meters of iceblock mush in a near 0-celcius degree water.

You know what's even more strange? Only now does this thought cross my mind. But the reason I said "friend" in the beginning was because we were aquainted to each other through my grand mother and some familiar of her. More forcefully than our own will, since we didn't like each other that much. We did spend time together every now and then since there was nothing else to do. However, I knew him for perhaps 6 months before this happened, and don't really remember seeing him after it for many times either. It's been so long till it happened that all I really can remember accurrately are the events of that specific day and that specific time of going out to the ice, and running back. If I believed in fate, I would wonder if I was supposed to meet him, so that my life would be saved that day. But, the fact that I never would have gone out there on my own (I'm not that much a daredevil, never was even) in the first place, outrules this.

A strange and interesting thing nevertheless.

    Hmmm. That sounds pretty freaky.

I was once on holiday with my parents when i was about 12 or 13 and we were walking along the top of a beach. When we came to leave we had to cross a road. But i didnt feel the fact that i had already walked off the path (the level of the road and path were very similar) and i nearly walked in front of a car. If my dad hadnt pulled me back i probably wouldnt be here now.

I've had one other experience but this was more paranormal. I was working on modifying a radio controlled car that i had been given. It used to belong to my neighbour before he unfortunately had a fatal motorcycle accident. I was adding a rollbar setup coz i was always breaking and scratching the top of the car.
In the process, i dropped a piece of the new rollbar and it fell outside the shed. I thought, "i'll get it in a moment when i need it" and carried on what i was doing. But when i went to pick it up, it wasn't there, and when i got back to the workbench, it was on the bench. I concluded that i was in the presence of a friendly ghost coz there was absolutely no one else near me or the shed during this whole event.

[IMG] I've had a few things happen to me which I consider rather unusual.

Once in my Middle School (St. Michaels.) I was outside in the Copse with My friends Lee, Thomas and Adam. We were the only people in our year who hadn't gone a trip somewhere for a week. It was just us four, (I was the only girl  ) We did hardly any work apart from when we went to the country park all the rest of the days we spent in th Copse which was an old burial ground for someone or other, the three boys were sitting and talking while I had sat a little way away watching an ant hill, the ants seemed to be behaving strangely, I noticed that they were walking in a line but avoiding a certain area of the ground, I got a stick and poked around and found it was just a tree root. After watching further the ants were walking either side of the root so I was just wandering round looking, one row of ants eventually joined up with the other and they went under a bush and dissapeard, watching closer I realised they were swarming around an object, when Ipicked it up it turned out to be an amber necklace with an ant inside - a queen ant, they had been trying to get it back to their hill - I wasn't allowed to keep the neckalce though :flaming:

Another time I was in Scotland in the midwinter adn I foolishly decided to go to the beach - I went in the water and got hyperthermia(sp), this may not sound strange but I hadn't intende to go in the water when I got in I went specifically to an area and picked up a small bacg of coins wedged in the rocks - I hadn't known it was there and it baffled my parents and self as I had no idea why I'd gone and got it.

THere are a few more things that I shan't bore you with other than a couple of strange things that worry me, I seem to hear things other people don't - like bangs, stray bits of information, whisperings and other indescribable things, I also get strange looks when I tell people that I see colours, I look at someone and there seems to be colours around them, for each person they look different, whether it is a differednt set of colours or they are mixed up differently with different patterns, I also seem to see things that can't have been there, like the large dog that walked past my mother in the street (She is terrified of dogs) I asked her why she didn't frea kout and she said there hadn't been a dog there at all.

8people: that story about the ant is pretty fascinating.

One summer I had a convergence of 3 events that really bowled me over as statements from a being greater than myself. It all began when my hubby and I were driving to New Mexico where we worked each summer. After having been driving all night I woke up at dawn, as I looked out the window in front of me, I saw the moon, a crescent moon reaching our from the horizon. Only the top half cam over the valley ahead. What waws really freaky was that since it was dawn the moon was entirely red. The first thought that came to me was that it looked like a giant claw reaching up from hell. I was very moved by this and took it as an omen: I was riding into some terrible future. (which I actually was).

Later in that same summer, my hubby and I hiked up this huge rock/mountain like they have in NM and when we got to the top our dog began acting really freaky. Their were some storm clouds miles away but not near us. At one point I looked over at a girl who was also up there too and all her hair was standing straight up above her head, really straight up, and it was long too. I realized that the electrical energy was building and it was very likely a lightening bolt would strike at any moment. The other people got totally freaked. We were in a very bad place, easy targets. Well, we managed to survive this event, climbing back down rather immediately. But what was really odd was that one week later when I was driving home from work, my car got struck by lightening. I was lucky the windows weren't open. It totally blew out all the electrical stuff and the car wouldn't drive.
At this point I got rather paranoid, I felt God was really trying to get my attention!!!

He/She/Holy Spirit most definitely was communicating to me that summer. Many events and changes occured in my life at that point.

[IMG] I'm one of these peole that have dreams and they actually happen. Some people claim that it's just a de javu thing, but I always remember the dreams when I wake up, but a couple of hours later forget them, until I am living them.
Also, Sometimes I just see, or 'feel' things. It's sort of disturbing at times, but a few times it has been comforting. This has happened a few times when there's meant to be ghosts ot spirits around :mommy:
The scariest thing though happened when I was about 3 or maybe 4 years old and it's etched into my memory forever as one the few early memories I have. I had been sent upstairs to my room to put my toys away, when I saw a dog that we had owned run into the room. (yes, owned at the time). I ran downstairs in hysterics and got into trouble and sent back up. Then a few moments later I saw a figure in the doorway. A guy with the head of a stag wearing a leafed cloak. Yep, I freaked and ran to safety of the parents, even if it was trough this thing. It wasn't until years later I learned I had 'seen' Herne the hunter from legends. Even thinking about it today freaks me out a bit, and now I'm going to very quickly finish this off and have a smoke. And watch over my shoulder :mommy:

Scarampella: You shouldn't be in any danger in a car. Just as a lightning striking an airplane is impossible. The phenomenon is called Faradays Cage, I think. If you make an electric conductive sphere, the electricity led in it will forcefully form so that either the outer or inner side's charge is positive, whereas the other is negative. Due to this, the "pull-away" force that resides on the inner side will in effect make it a non-electrical field. Basically resulting in that as long as the power of that lightning doesn't instantly melt the car from around you, there is no way you can get hit by the lightning itself as you sit inside it. In effect, a car is one of the most safest places to sit inside during a lightning-storm. Windows or no. Assuming you don't stick your limbs out from the field of course. :)

As far as deja vu's go, the scientific explanation is that it's caused by a short-time bug of sorts in your brain. Where every information you get for the duration of this time is double-checked for errors so to speak. Basicly, your brain absorbs the information you receive, but does a flaw in processing it, so it quickly draws the infomation from your short-term memory and processes it again. You can't consciously grab this incredibly fast process, however. So all you feel really is as if you'd experienced it somewhere, some time, before. In principle, it's the same phenomenon as some people call "dream-seeing" because they seem to remember that they dreamed of this before, only had forgotten it.

I did think of an interesting theory when in ground-school high (I think that's what it's called). Imaginative to such an extent that I hardly believe in it now. But I thought I should mention it nevertheless. The basic thought behind it was that deja vu's really are glimpses of information from the future. But since it is the future, where you're not supposed to be yet, you can't understand the information. Yet, you can *feel* it. Instead of trying to think and know what will happen next, just living with the flow, so to speak, will give you the sense of things to come. I was sure at the time that I was able to truly predict the little things that happened after up to ten seconds. Now, however, I don't remember succeeding in it for years and really think that it was nothing but luck.

[IMG] @8people: are you sure you're not able to see peoples' aura??
I've heard that some people can do that. Apparently, anyone is supposed to be able to do it by looking at someone by squinting, but it's never worked for me.

This may be a bit :yot: but can anyone else do lucid dreaming, where you change the events of a dream as they unfold? I've been able to do this for years, without ever consciously trying. Frequently when i dream, I reach a stage where I *know* that I'm dreaming and I decide to see how things proceed. If they take a turn I don't like, I'll either change what's happening or decide to wake up.

There's a name for it in Finnish, which is "valveuni". About the same as "wakedream", or somesuch. It is a commonly known thing that some people have this type of dreams. I did, for a year and a half, many years ago. It was basically the same as thinking while you were awake, only the dream side of it, or should we say imagination, was greatly enhanced. I could effect and change whatever happened as much as I wanted. I could hear my parents talking, and I could actually count the hours for until it was time to wake up for school. I could rehearse things I should do the next day when sleeping etc. For me that period had a really positive effect, as the extra time for thinking really helped me with my social life and school.

Now, I don't remember any of my dreams for at least 2 years back. I just never have any recollection of the time I've spent sleeping. Then again, I have around 1 day per week when I feel I've slept enough. I'm the sort that needs 8 hours per night for sleep so it's comfortable. I usually get from 5 to 6.

Rallymama: I have only been able to affect my dreams in terms of getting myself to wake up when I don't like what is happening.

Foradasther: if my arm was resting on the the open window of my car it would not recieve any electrical shock?

Of course it would. But if you kept your hands inside the car, it wouldn't make any difference wether the window was closed or not. My misunderstanding there though, for now I understand what you meant by saying that due to the closed windows your life was saved. :)

A small picture of the phenomenon:

    ###
    %%
    %% *
    %% *****
    %|
    %|
    %|
    ###

    # = car doorframes, the metal that is around the window

    | = a half-opened window

% = the electrical current that is closed around the car, now streaming through the air from the other end of the window frame to the other

    * = a hand that should NOT touch the space where the electical current is

Please, don't blame me of oversimplifying as I'm sure you all did get my point even without this picture. It was just something I wanted to do as much for my own amusement as yours. Note, I'm not a physics expert, even though I wasn't the lousiest physics student in high-school either. Just that I know the principle, not the precise details. If someone finds something wrong, then please point it out for me and fix it. But the idea of Faraday's cage is this. It doesn't matter wether it was a closed sphere of metal, or an open cascet of a car, the electricity will behave in the same way, assuming there is enough conductant to make the Faraday's cage. Understandably you can't do it with 3 copper strings no matter how you might try it. Still, the current follows the surface lines of the cage, meaning that if you pull a plastic cellaphane around the entire car, that's pretty much where the actual electricity is.

Foradasther: I liked the pic! That is basically what I had imagined. I figured if my arm touched the metal outside the car the current would also enter my body. I know a guy who has been struck by lightening twice and lived to tell about it.
