Obsidian's Lead Designer Ferret Baudoin has been interviewed by RPG Vault and today, RPG Vault presents part two of the interview. This one concentrates on character creation and party management. Here's a snip:

Jonric: How about advancement through the course of the game? How much do the player's choices affect the way ostensibly similar characters actually play?

Ferret Baudoin: Our game uses 3.5 edition Dungeons and Dragons - which is a robust and fun system. Wizards of the Coast did a great job of rebalancing things for 3.5 edition D&D to make character development more even. Some classes (like the ranger) had all their goodies front-loaded, and later on, there were levels that weren't quite so filled with gamey goodness as the beginning ones. Now, you progress in levels and there's almost always a new shiny toy just out of reach. A delicious and sinister design - how excellent.

Players can wind up wildly different depending on their choices in classes, feats, and skills. Two elven fighters play very differently if one has their Whirlwind Attack and the other a more Power Attack and Cleave set of feats... many upon many possibilities.

Whoa; did they say you can control your henchmen, or did I misread:

I imagine it will be like KotOR where you can control one of any member of the party (including yourself) while the rest of the party is computer-controlled, and you can switch who you are controlling at any time.

What is more, some stages of KotOR require you to control a different party member than your main character, who is not accessible. KotOR II also had such quests. There were also moments when someone had to be in your party, even for a longer time, or couldn't be. Some NPCs were made more crucial than others this way. Wonder if this is going to happen in NWN2.

Well, it's still better than nothing. At least this way you can potentially get some use from the spellcasting class NPCs

I wouldn't mind seeing something like KotOR 1 or 2 in a quasi-mediaeval setting like Forgotten Realms. Even if it's NWN2, although I might be more inclined to want NWN2 to follow the example of NWN1. But I generally want more games of the lovely KotOR kind. ;)
