I think the answer to that depends almost entirely on who you include in your party.

I always have Imoen in my good party. She rocks as the main spellcaster, and is adequate for my thieving needs with the right items. There, my good protagonist is a fighter/mage. Faster progesssion for both mage and fighter without the triple-classing.

Currently, I'm sating my curiosity with the Viconia flirt pack. At the same time, I'm going off on a new experiment for an evil party. I'm going with a five man party through SofA that includes Viccy, Edwin, Korgan, and Jaheira. I'll pick up a certain somebody afterwards. In this regard, the F/M/T provides another meleer, a second offensive spellcaster, and takes care of the theiving.

F/M/t is better I think, but you won't need it if you have Imoen. i play solo so I would either use F/M/T or F/T :D

[IMG] Be true neutral F/M and get a bunny rabit as a familiar, this will detect traps for you and disarm them??. you can use the first level spell Knock to open locked things if you are soloing. :)
