Ok, I just got IWD II and want to make a five man party with a drow fighter/mage. I've heard ppl multiclassing like that before, but how do you go around without armor?(cause of mage). And no, I don't want a fighter-cleric since I love dual wielding swords

The 3rd edition rules are fairly different from the 2nd edition.

Your fighter/mage can wear armour. And still cast spells. The armour increases the chances of a "failure" to cast the spell, but there is a specific *feat* to counter-act that (Armoured Arcana). Leather armour increases your failure by 5%, chainmail by 10%, plate mail by 15%, and it ratchets up to like 50% from there. So if you put three points into AA and wear plate mail, you've no extra chance of failure from the armour.

Those percentages may be off, I was just guessing. And I do believe there are several artifacts (armour, shields, ring, amulets) that reduce your failure rate as well.

You can take your armour on and off as you need to except,of course, during combat.

The cleric is no longer bound by the blunt-weapons-oly thing. Pope Urban recinded his edict. But the cleric does start out with 0.00 points on all edged and pointy kinds of weapons. You can dual wield a cleric with short swords if you want, and put points into dual wield and small blades feats.

    It depends.

If your fighter/mage specializes in buf mage, he can cast his spells before combat.

If you make dexterity oriented mage, he can wear armor with low arcane spell failure percentage (you can also invest into previously mentioned feat, but this is a waste of feats).

If you use mage armor, it has 4 armor bonus and lasts hour / caster level, it is a first level spell.

You will find bracers (up to 4 armor bonus) - no casting hindering with them. You can use some robes instead of armor.

And there are some nice items - if you want to be spoiled, I can write here some of them ...

But it is very nice surprise to find them ...
