Well, who is best? Personaly I like the Swashbuckler more, since he gets more thieving skills.
    Make your vote ;)

    Cheers.

please explane to me how a swashbuckler gets more thieving skills than a thief, or a fighter/theif for that matter. Of course you might be talking about dualclassing a fighter/theif, but why would you want to do that when you can play a multi-class fighter theif?

First, I assume you mean multiclass.
More theiving skills? I looked up the kit description and did not see this.
In fact, I found out that the Swashbuckler has fewer thieving skills in that they have no backstab multiplier.
That in itself makes me say that the F/T is a better choice.
Add to this the fact that you get the Fighter special abilities, like Greater Whirlwind attack and Hardiness, I think it is a no brainer.

Multiclass F/T, preferably Halfling with Dexterity 19.

What I meant was that the Swashbuckler gets new thieving skills every lvl up, a Fighter/Thief multi don't.
And 'bout the backstab... well, that is a minus, thought my Swashbuckler dealt out 97 dmg with +++ 2 wpn and ++ short sword, with a critical with Short Sword of Mask.

    Cheers.

You still get your abilities every thief level up.

And while that damage is impressive, imagine that X4.

Highest backstab ever for me was with Jan Jansen on a mage in the Planar Prison. He did 137 dmg at x3 backstab with Arbane's Sword.

What is you guys highest backstabs and dmgs?

I know I have had some above 300hp of damage with my assassin at x7 backstab, mostly on mages that explode when you do 50 damage to them. I havent really paied attention to the damage as long as the enemies die. :D

spetznaz is kinda right when he points out the swashbuckler enjoys
... this is a result of the higher thief level of a swashbuckler compared to he mc fighter-thief :hippy: anyway ...

[*]The swashbuckler is a very interesting class - especially since he receives -1 on AC every 5 levels and a THACO bonus ... however, he has to be handeled with care since he's a midged with a giant's punch - lacking the hitpoints to take damage. So he's best used as a rusch-in & out again char dualwielding for maximum punch and number of attacks or, when you prefer to be careful, ranged weapon fighter.
[*]The mc fighter-thief on the other hand can very well survive in straight melee if necessary, he also is a formidable backstabber due to his good THACO. Because of sharing xp with the fighter class he's a poorer thief ... so you have to focus first ... on long term the lack of skill points it's just the difference between skill and perfectrion.

From both classes, I found the swashbuckler more demanding to play.

IMO the THAC0, AC and damage advantages of fighter/thieves and swahsbucklers nearly match one another. The most important difference is that the F/T can backstab (which is a nice way to deal with mages), while the Swashbuckler gets more levels quicker. So I'd recommend a Swashbuckler for a party member and a F/T for a solo (well, actually, I'm gonna try an Assassin for soloing - gotta backstab all the way, man)
