[IMG] First off great site. Second... Hello.

I have a human 10th level fighter with profs in Bastard Sword +++, Two weapon style +++, Long Swords +, and wish to dual class in a couple of levels.

My only problem is deciding which way to go either fighter/mage or fighter/thief. I like magic but there is something about just killing with weapons. Also in my group is a Half Elf Archer.

    Now some dumb questions....

    1. The book says that I can use the abilities of my first class after I surpass it with the second but can I still add profs to the first class?

    2. While in second class do I still deal damage as per the profs from the first?

    3. Any advice?

    Thanks,
    goat

    1. No. You can never again improve your first class.

    2. No. Your first class is inactive until you surpass its level with your dual class.

Still one thing I don't know...

Say I dual class right now to a thief and start gaining levels. With levels come more prof points. If I were to add these to bastard sword would I still have my three as a fighter or am I back at zero? Or when I pass the fighter in level are the prof points combined? Or do I just lose everything I had as a fighter?

I hope you can understand what I'm trying to get at. I'm just trying to understand this hole dual class thing.

Once your fighter class is active again you get proficency points back.
    Proficency points do not stack.

And welcome to the boards :)

I recommend that you read the TACH0 tables for a bit more bonuses b4 you dual-class. I don't remember which level it is, but I think it's 11:th level when you gain TACH0 improvement again. It's worth waiting for if you want to power game.

That clears it up. I'll have to check all the tables to find the best level to dual at. Just trying to figure the dumb questions first.

    And thanks for the welcome.

Also, be sure not to dual on a too high level, 'cause that will make you unable to regain your first class abilities. That is if you're playing with the experience cap still there.

I would advise you to dual-class at level 13. Why?

    1) At lvl 12 you get an extra proficiency.
    2) At lvl 13 you get a HUGE bonus to saving throws.
    3) At lvl 13 you get an extra 1/2 attack.

And it will be better to dual-class to athief - because in SoA there isn't too much experience before the cap, and Wizards are the slowest to level up (375,000 per level), while thieves need only 220,000 - it means you will regain your fighter class fairly quickly.
