I just finished BG1 and I´m a little confused....I read about the final battle (that the only chance to win was to summon monsters with a magician (I had no magician in my party)) and it sounded like it would be very, very hard. Well, Saverok didn´t hit me at all and he was dead within 1 minute or so...it was harder to fight "greater doppelgängers". I reloaded a few times because I thought it was pure luck, but I had the same result every time....a bit dissapointing, don´t you think so, too?

Weird, I thought it was tough the first time. Especially Angelo (or whoever) with his invisibility and explosive arrows was a chore.

Yeah. BG2 Final: now THAT was easy. But I had probs with BG1. Web, cloudkill, fireball, exploding arrows shot with haste and tazok, sarevok and doom guards with traps all over the damned floor didn't bother you?? All my guys were level 7 and I had a hard time...

To be honest i found it easy the first time as well...

what did i do? not much, just got one of my guys to walk down the left and just attract Soervok ... his minions were left behind and i took him out easy...

Note, the wizards arn't all that much use in the final battle apart from casting protection spells on people...

[IMG] Most battles in BG and BG2 are quite easy once you know what to expect. I'm just wondering if all people who find final battles 'too' easy are telling the whole story. To just walk into a final battle without knowing what to expect, then how easy would it be. I'm sure that you wouldn't have all of your protection spells cast and your attribute enhancing potions consumed. You wouldn't even know it was the final battle so how would you know to prepare?
IMHO the battles are quite tough, it's the save-reload feature that makes them easy.

Moeken: You may have something there... but what I meant by Irenicus being Easy, was due to the hype all my friends gave. They kept saying how they had to keep running around for 10mins or something to make him deplete his spells, while i just cut him down in the first 2mins or so. I didn't even use haste or anything. Ihacked a glabrezu down with one shot from my kensai. one of the balors died with the first shot of my silver sword, sending my 2 now-free party members to assist my other 2 fighters ended the existence of the other balor and glabrezu. then I had Aerie and Imoen each catch Khelben's Warding hip on Irenicus, used keldorn and minsc as attack decoys, then slayer changed and took Irenicus from behind so he couldn't "maze" or "imprison" me.

Perhaps you are right, Moaken..perhaps it was just easy because I knew that it was the final battle....but I don´t really think so. I´ve played AD&D (pen and paper) for several years now....that´s why I usually send a thief to explore what´s going on...I also use this with computer games....and this skull in the middle of the screen was just too obvious to step on. With a thief looking what´s going on, the final battle is really easy...you just have to care that Saverok´s friends don´t bother you....again using the thiefs skills....

not to be insulting, but that isn't fighting the final battle. It's like saying Firkraag in BG2 is easy because you can just kill him with a bunch of cloudkill spells. You're just exploiting a game design flaw. Now, I do that myself, but that's because I suck a lot at videogames. Try fighting Sarevok and his sidekicks. Much more difficult when you fight the battle in its entirety (meaning with Sarevok's aides). Being the moron that I am, it took me about ten tries to figure out that the mage was killing my guys with cloudkill, and another 20 tries to do something about it. At which point I gave up and used the luring Sarevok away from his buddies method.

It took me a good 7 or 8 ties to take him down the first time through. I had Me(elven ranger) and Minsc both equiped with bows. Mt guy had ice arrows, minc had fire. both had hasted casted on them. I had my edwin cast monster summoning 3 times and Vincona cast animate dead 3 times so theres like almost 40 creatures all up in there. I had my pally lead the monsters up to boss. When the battle started traps where sprug, fireballs ignited, and weds were spread. My two archers where able to take down anyone, i had them in the back away from the dangers. I first took out angelo cause hes the most pain, the the wizard, than tazok, and Saveroke. It was quite easy using this tactic. only my pally and all 40 creatures died.

AMaster - I think the method LowboDyiss used was an excellent example or roleplay - up to a point at least. Scouting the terrain with a thief is the reason they have the stealth ability. Now, taking advantage of the fog-of-war is a completely different matter. You can send in a thief, see how many enemies you'll be facing, reorganise your group and then attack them straight forward. That's OK by me. If you were referring to the fog-of-war trick however I'm with you 100%.
