finding scrolls

I'm in chapter 3 in the severed hand and my now 5th level mage has two open slots for 5 level spells and the best I have found so far is 2 decent level 4 spells. What's the point of having spell slots open if there's no scrolls to scribe? it's so frustrating! Will I start finding scrolls later?

You have to buy the majority of your scrolls. It's a kick in the pants if you're coming from either of the BG games where scrolls are more than plentiful, but...there it is.

 

uggggghhhhhh.....thanks. I was afraid of this. I mean, someone had said they're scarce but I didn't think it was gonna be this bad. I guess I'll have to wait until chapter 4 before the inventory starts changing around.

Don't worry.
You will find many powerful level 4 scrolls in the severed hand and even level 5 scrolls there.

There are: Stoneskin, Animate Dead, Cone of Cold, and various emotion spells in Severed Hand, look carefully and never miss them!

 

There is a level 3 haste spell in chapter 1 in the last tomb in vale of shadows. if you did the tomb more or less complete you should have found it (first floor on the left/upper side after you defeat the guardian of the tomb).

 

Umm is there a complete scroll guide, somewhere on SP? It could be really handy, as IWD really has so few spell scrolls which you can not afford to pass by.

 

There exists a spell guide which lists any spell in IWD, HoW and TotL and and the location of the mage scrolls.
(except the random scrolls like from the jester's bag of holding)

It's actually pretty easy to find.

 

Remember to revisit Orrick's tower in Kuldahar every so often - his inventory changes several times in the game, usually between chapters, and he gets more powerful spells then.

 

You guys were right. I found a ton of scrolls once I got up into the fourth level of the tower. very nice, and I'll make sure to check back at Orrick's every once in a while. Thanks
