Firetooth crossbow acting weird

[IMG] Sorry for the double posting (this is in the Shadows of Amn subboard as well)

I was comparing the 'basic' (+4) Firetooth to other crossbows.

Equipping Minsc with it, I got a -4 THAC0 and 1 attack per round.

THEN I put on a REGULAR bolt. I figured this would make the THAC0 worse by 2, as the description of the crossbow states that +2 of the THAC0 bonus is from the fire bolts.

BUT instead the THAC0 turned up as -6 (!!!) AND I got 2 attacks per round instead of one (!!!).

    1) Have others encountered this bug? (or is there a fault in my logic?)

    2) Does the bug also give the benefit in actual play? (or is it just a bug on what is displayed for Minsc)

ok.. im supposing that this would apply to the Gesen bow as well.. and if it does.. then my rationale would come through as logical...

lets say you use no bolts, then you're shooting magical bolts at +2, but lets say you use a normal bolt, then im guessing that the normal bolt is now augmented by the effects of the magical bolt the crossbow creates, or like when you use a +3 arrow with the +4 Gesen bow, then it becomes a +7 hit, so maybe the game inteprets the lowest bolt the Firetooth can use as +2, and it also has its own, +2 effect, so the effect is doubled

Is the Firetooth upgradable by Cespenar? I believe it is...but I never get the option to.

Yeah, it's upgradeable with the Bowstring of Gond and I think 5,000. Makes a VERY nice weapon for Imoen. A +5 crossbow with magical bolts, and perhaps even better normal bolts. Almost makes you want to use her as an archer, not a mage (not really).

There is another bug with the firetooth but there was already a topic on it. And thats definitly a bug, in this case it's a good one, so just leave it.

[IMG] You can purchase it from Sister Garlena on top of Watcher's Keep.
