[IMG] Hmm, well, i just wonder one thing...
I went down to Firkraag to rescue his prisoner, and after i talked to him i went up to kill the mage (dont remember his name...)
, so once upstairs i started the fight, one of my mages was almost killed so i went down to Firkraag again to heal her, but before that the mage had done a "copy" of himself that followed me down, so i killed him quite easily, but when i killed the "fake mage" i got 6000exp and the key, strange i thought, so i went upstairs and killed the bastard where i got the key again and 6000exp. Is this some kind of bug or what?

By the way, anyone have any tips on how i can kill Firkraag? Really hard bastard for me,

    Party:
    fighter lvl 9
    Minsc lvl 9
    Jaheira lvl 9
    Aire lvl 9
    Nalia lvl 9
    Jan Jansen lvl 10

    any good tactics?

[IMG] Well, iirc there is/was a bug with enemies doubling when they follow you into a new area... doesn't really matter much, just dump one of the two keys...

First, I'd level up a bit more to level 10 or 11... after that, have Jaheira summoning some fire-elementals, have your fighter or minsc dressed up in slayer gear... You've got a lot of mages, well, if aerie casts shadowdoor, she can be your walking hospital, healing and ressing other chars near firky. I'd switch either Nalia or Jan for another fighter, like Korgan or Keldorn... That would make a HUGE difference in defeating Firk.
Have a mage cast some pierce magic/breach to remove his protections. Have him surrounded so that even when he wingbuffets you, you'll still have some dummies he can hit while the others recover. (Otherwise he'll attack your ranged attackers.)

Summon lots and lots of minions. Don't summon all your minions at once, just start up with say 3, then as some die throw in fresh ones. Fire Elementals will do awesome here...

You could do it in a nonchallenging way, that's casting silence '15 radius on him before he hostiles, then attack him. This way he won't be able to cast his protections, and he'll be dead before he can lay a claw on you.

Good luck, the loot is worth it, especially if you include Keldorn in your Party.

Good job on trying to attempt to fight him at such an early lvl. Some people fight him at lvl 16 then complain he was to easy. I beat him right around your lvl too but my party might have been ten. I had the samn people too.

I killed him by casting cloud kill a couple of times. I didnt hvae the spell where it rains snow, but if you have it use it. Then i had jahera summon 2 animals. If your lucky you will get winter wolves they do cold dmge. Try to get the winter wolves.
Try to use anything that does cold dmge. Then i went in there with all dragon dtuff and casted magic missle a lot. I eventually killed him. But it took me a couple of days.

I think you should still try to kill him because it is still possible

[IMG] In my experience, its better to go heavy on the mages when fighting Firkraag at relatively low levels. Fighters, no matter how good their stats/equipment are/is, just dont have the THAC0 or AC to bust him up at level 9-10 without getting chomped (especially with those nasty wing buffets). I found it much better to summon your quota of beasties and then stay back pounding Firkragg with spells and missile weapons (after, of course, the obligatory Lower Resistance plus other fun stuff like Greater Malision or Doom if you feel like it). Lightning, Holy Smite (warning - can cause evil summons to turn on you; not much of a problem except they stop deterring the red scaly one) Magic Missile, Melf's Acid Arrow etc etc. If you tenderised him up a bit beforehand with the above spells, you can sometimes be really jammy and incapacitate him instantly. For example, the last time I killed him Nalia cast Chaos on him and he promptly ran into a corner and hid. This allowed Keldorn, Mazzy and Sebastian the Ranger to make mincemeat out of him. However, far be it from me to go against Faragorn's advice; this works for me but others may find it either ineffective and/or boring.

yes, at such early levels, your best bets are mages/clerics

try chromatic orb (nalia) after lower resistance (aerie/nalia) and doom (aerie/jaheira)(lots of doom =)

remember to keep casting resist fire on your spellcasters

and spread your guys out around the dragon

And make sure your main healer isn't in the fray, nothing worse than badly injured or dead party members, and no healer to cure people with.

Same goes for fighting vampires, they get annoying when your priest suddenly forgets the restoration spell cos some damned vampire has sucked your level away.

Yeah tell me about it. I just started playing the hard-gamelevel. I wanted to try and defeat firekraag in a non-cheesy way.
He destroyed Yoshimo, and killed all my party members other than my main character. I had to go to trademeet to resurrect Anomen, come back equip him and let him raise Jaheira who raised Minsc.

I used lots of summonings because it destracts him. lower resistance of course. Minor sequencer so I could cast two magic missiles at once. loadsa potions. scrolls of restoration, those things kick ass. All the defensive spells I could think of. pierce magic, cus you HAVE to remove that stoneskin. dragonslayer sword, although I don't know if I hit him with it.

My characters are all lev 9-10 too
