fluctuating THACOs

    I notice my f/thif's thaco bounces all over the place. One second it's -1, next time I look it's +2 or 3. I haven't changed weapons, no magic is involved, it just varies all the time!

    Anyone else notice this?

    Yes, it stuck me during the "dagers and grandmastery" topic - following the rules my char should have had a THACO of -1 with his Katana+3 IIRC, but he had -3 instead. Shortly after it returned to correct -1. I don´t know the reason - I guessed potion effects, dunno

    It think its because your character was cloaked or sumthing, since you get to hit (thaco) bonuses while cloaked/invisible, which would be logical since your a fighter/thief.

    Hmm, I don´t that stealth abilities improve your THACO - the only things it influences are IMHO:
    a) multiple damage due to backstabbing
    b) it reduces your initiative so you get the first attack - when attacking beholfers in BG-2 beeing cloaked a backstabbing attack usually failed - nontheless I got the first attack anyway (great with stunning C`Fury) :D

    As a matter af fact, it does. I just checked it. My Swashbuckler/Fighter (lvl 10/19) received a +4 bonus to THACO when hidden in shadows. It goes from -16 to -20 :cool:

    [​IMG] Hmm, indeed .... in BG-2 hiding in shadows improves THACO, IIRC it is reduced by 4 when hiding in shadows - but maybe this depends on the thieves level. So you´re both right VelDor and Mojahed - thanks for the hint ... *~#x@°**# :mad: :(

    Despite that THACO still is fluctuating on my thief, hidden or not :(

    Sure, a THAC0 bonus for hiding in shadows makes sense to me... The thief can check over the target for the weak point in the armor and strike there (under the arm perhaps); the target is unaware of the thief and is not prepared for an attack.
