I found this painting rolled up in some storage under my basement stairs this morning. I was actually looking for something else but this one surprised me. When I unrolled it at first I did not remember painting it. Which is kind of weird for me because I make so many images. When I saw the rocks on the bottom of the picture I remembered painting just the rocks.

I now remember why it is half finished and I left it. There was something wrong with the composition and I didn't have a clear message to put into it. The figure is anatomically incorrect - which is forgivable if you look it the piece in a surreal context however I don't see an acceptable reason for the figure to be that way.

I think its time to rework and finish this piece. The strangest thing about this painting is that I can now remember thinking about the year 2012 when I made it. The year wasn't necessarily the point of my painting but maybe I had set an unseen timer in my head that this was going to be the year I complete it.

Edit - The completed painting can be seen here.

That figure looks freaky... Like you knew you'd be talking about a zombie apocalypse in 2012 when you found it again. :)

Yah I know - its the skull in the face. I don't remember why I put it there, I might have just been deciding facial structure.

Pretty sure I wasn't thinking about a zombie apocalypse at the time though.
