FR Languages

does anyone know which books would actually get me a sample of FR languages? Especially Chondathan and Illuskan? I don't mind using real first names for characters, but my dear Elsa is suppose to be a noble with holdings in the area of Waterdeep and I figured it would probably be best if her last name fell with the confines of the Chondathan language (or at the very least the Illuskan language, as her human half is of Illuskan descent). I don't really identify my characters by their names and hence their names change quite often, I'm more interested in creating a "working name" for, specifically, a noble character then having a "unique name".

Any help would be appreciated as I have almost know idea what books actually deal with FR linguistics.

 

The FR campaign setting has a little box in the character creation setting that lists a number of names for various races...though I don't know if it includes Chondathan or Illuskan (I think it does, but I'm not sure). Other than that, mabye Races of Faerun has something?

 

the Races of Faerun doesn't help Have the book, all it says is what the various languages stem from.

I assume I can get by with upper German (probably old Saxon) and the Nordic languages to pass as Illuskan if there isn't an actual generated language. I'm not sure if the Chondathans are based on the French, their coloring and their regoinal specific feats Plague Resistance and Chandathan Missionary lead me to lean that way however.

Maybe some of the FR location books could help me here, though they're not really the texts I'm dying to spend money on (for as far as I know they won't give me more feats to give to characters).

the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book has the most info of the 3rd ed books. It contains the letters used for the various alphabets (Dethek and Torass etc) But it does not give you any help making names or words.

This is the kinda thing i usually lok to 2E books for, I found alot of info on the dwarven language in the old 2E Dwarves Deep book for Forgotten Realms, the alphabet, commons words and names, and also a bit of gramatics etc. There might be similar books for other languages, but i am uncertain about the various "human sublanguages". Probablly just refer to Thorass, and whatever rules aplies to Common.

Humans beeing their usual random lot, can use almost any sort of name. So say your mothers line was illuskan, but her mother might have married someone originally from Calimshan etc and thus picked up another name.
