Okay, now this is getting funny. America is officially over its long affection for all things French.

    First this:

Soon I'll be ordering a salad with "Freedom Dressing". Breakfast tomorrow will be "Freedom Toast"

Maybe if I get lucky, my wife and I will "Freedom Kiss"

Well, since you dear Yanks are laughing at your own country's semantics antics, I'll join in from my side: France is in the process of campaigning the Pope to change the word used for "gluttony" on the grounds that eating well is actually a virtue. This is true. And especially ironic in France, where anorexia is a far bigger public health problem than obesity. If ever countries could be defined by what they think needs to be euphemised, "Freedom Fries" and "Gourmandise" would have to be the best examples I can think of.

    Gluttony

I've read some time ago about that Freedom Fries idiocy... It could have been funny, but sadly, it's just laughable. And pathetic.

[IMG] C'mon its quite funny. Freedom Fries, Freedom Toast, Freedom Bread, Freedom Mustard, Freedom Kissing, etc....

Its actually quite funny when it comes to fries - which are yellow by nature. As they said in the Old West: "Yoos yella bellied cowpoke!" :aaa: .

I admit, it is a tad juvenile. ... but is does show the extent America's discontent with France's weakness has gone. They did sell a nuclear reactor to Iraq. They did prevent the U.S. from using their airspace to attack Libya (for terrorism ironically), etc....

My mind is suddenly blanking on the man's name, but a high ranking Democrat appeared recently on the Daily Show (a satirical news show). When Jon Stewart asked him about the Freedom Fries idiocy, he blamed the Republicans.

"This is what they do," he said. It was pretty funny, he made it sound like the Republicans are passing insane ordinances while the powerless Democrats try not to cry on camera. He did say the upside was that he thought the Democrats are due for a big election next time 'round, with the Republicans alienating Europe, changing the name of food, and waging a very unpopular war.

[IMG] I'm actually a Democrat, but I got a big kick out of the whole event. I've heard a good number of references to the whole "French" aspect of fries over the years.

The funniest, way before the Freedom Fries Controversy :) , was Jack in the Box's commerical where he was selling a new burger and fries deal. The line that said that something to the effect: "and we both agreed the French got way too much credit for them" was great! :)

Anyway, I need to get some freedom toast, freedom fries, freedom bread, freedom roast coffee. I'll sit on the couch and watch Freedom Stewart (from Third Rock of the Sun) with a freedom poodle. :p

I think the whole idea is dumb. When I go to Wendy's, I'm still going to order French Fries...ordering Freedom Fries isn't going to hurt France enough for my liking. :p

I don't know about you Blackhawk, but I'm going to go give my g/f a Freedom Kiss! ;) :rolling:
