I am going to do a full install (current one is 'Recommended') as my CD drive is going to go FUBAR real soon. Symptoms: after a while, it's as if there is no CD in the drive, although there is one. And this affects all CDs, not just BG2 CDs. Ejecting and reinserting the disc has no effect.

    2 questions:

    1. Can I copy the contents of all CDs to my hard drive and install off that?

    2. Even under a full install, I heard that CD2 is still needed as a copy protection thingie. Does the game check for CD2 ONCE per session, or all the time?

    Please help. Thanks.

Yes, but you would need to edit the INI (forget the name; could be install) and change the CD paths to where you copied the files.

It is required all the time. You can download a crack at http://www.megagames.com to allow you to play without it. It's legal since you own the game.

There is an article here at Sorcerer's about doing this for Planescape Torment. The principles are the same for BG2 so I'll post the link below. However, I don't really understand why you would want to do it this way rather than just using the instal program that comes with the game and chosing the 'full install' option. I know you are having problems with the CD but you will still need that working to copy the disk contents to your hard drive.

    Anyway, here is the link:

If they made the game without bugs, I would be the first one to throw flames at crack sites. But since they slapped customers in the face, consider my support on those posts (sorry Tal, I simply hate BI bugs).

[IMG] That's enough crack posting (heh). You got what you needed. It'll only be tolerated since it could potantially be used to solve certain problems.
