So I'm watching the 11 oclock news on Los Angeles' ABC. We've been getting a lot of rain lately, and I mean a lot of rain. There is a chance that this could end up being the wettest season of all time in Southern California. So of course, this is a big news story out here. Well one of the ABC 7's reporters was out talking to people about all the rain. This one guys is saying, "This rain is really wet. Its making everything wet!"
    Thank you, Captain Obvious!

Rain makes things wet? I never knew. And I wouldn't. We haven't had rain in Auckland for near 3 weeks (or at least it seems like it). Can we have some?

They're already talking about hose-pipe bans in the South & East of England. This has been the third driest Winter on record
(or something like that, I was still half asleep when it was on the radio)

I do not know which one is more funny, in a sad way:

    - People saying rain is wet, or

    - Several channels wasting their money on rain-reports.

Next in worldwide news: "The sun is shining!" :shake:

Maybe he was trying to make a joke ... or quoting C.S. Lewis (from the Chronicles of Narnia).

Unfortunately, here in Southern California, rain is news. We've had a sinkhole the size of a parking lot, numerous mud-slides, hundreds of millions of dollars of damage to the roads, etc. We're not really equipped to handle this kind of rain and the people here have no bloody idea how to drive in the rain (ticks me off, as I'm originally from NY and am readily able to drive in "weather").

But, yes, sometimes I am amazed that the local talking heads are able to put the concepts of "rain" and "wet" together in a single sentence (that's one of the reasons I don't watch local news).

    Weather forcasters and reporters....

Weather forecast for tonight: dark. Continued dark overnight, with widely scattered light by morning.
    -George Carlin-

Indeed most of their remarks were the sort it would not be easy to disagree with: "What I always say is, when a chap's hungry, he likes some victuals," or "Getting dark now; always does at night," or even "Ah, you've come over the water. Powerful wet stuff, ain't it?"
    -C.S. Lewis-

dmc-What were the calling some of the storms? WinterStorm2005 I forgot the channel
When I lived in Birmingham, Alabama, snow was the big thing. A couple flakes and everyone rushed out and bought bread and milk. It was crazy. Schools would close, businesses would close. I grew up in Chicago. So I know how to drive in snow and rain. We never closed down for anything. 30 degrees below freezing and we still had school.

Some years ago (I think 2003. In any case, it was after the year 2000.), there was a lot of rainfall in Europe. In many countries the rivers flooded, and it was all very disastrous.

The floods were so huge, that on the TV, the news referred to the flood as "The Flood of the Century" (rough translation from german)(I don't know what it is like in other countries, but it has become a habit of the german news - especially on private channels - to give certain long-lasting events, a title. They make a logo for it, which they display in the background when there is something new about that topic).
My father and I both agreed, that this is really silly - the century has just begun, and they refer to those river floods as "Flood of the Century", as if there won't be any river floods after that (even though I hope they won't be as bad as these).
