I'm running BG1 on a Windows XP system, everything was going great until Ajantis leveled up and I went to increase his proficiency. I'm crashing to desktop and getting the following message...
An Assertion failed in D:bad:Dev\Baldur\ObjCreature.cpp at line number 12521

Any idea what that is or how to fix it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe the patch will help. You should be able to find it on SP, in the Baldur's Gate/Miscellanea section.

I uninstalled, re-installed and re-patched, can move about the world fine, just crashes when I try to level up Ajantis.

I had a lot of crashes until I fully installed the game on a Windows 98 SE system with the original Direct X 6.1.

    Generally, full installs are stabler.
Some say assertion errors can be fixed by erasing the cache data. However, in my full install, the temp directory is empty.

I did empty the cache too. Started a new game as well and the same thing happened under different circumstances. I had Disk 3 in when it happened and am wondering if maybe it's corrupt or something. I have an email in to Bioware to find out

That happens to me all time. Sometimes it is because an area is corrupt (I can't do Ulcaster) and sometimes I manage to avoid it by having my party walk somewhere slightly different (e.g. I reload and do something different and it works).

This last time it happened I'd just rested in Nashkell and it crashed when I came out of the dream sequence.

Any chance of you simply running the game on old Windows 98?

Weird. Have you always had this problem with the game?

I don't know if this is related, but I have also experienced random crashes to the desktop (no 'assertion error' message). these usually occur in the first 30 minutes of play. On restart the game runs fine for however long I play. This does not occur at any set place in the game or, so far as I have been able to determine, as a result of any single action.

Running BG, TotSC full install w/ Official Patch, Baldurdash fix pac, and ease of use. Win98se on a 500MHz Athlonn w/ Dimond Viper card.

Any ideas? This is an anoying, but not critical
