As the introduction to the interview states, pretty much everyone is already full of stories of PC Gaming being in decline, consoles on the rise and so on and so forth. The death of the PC game industry has been predicted for ages now and it still isn't coming. One can't but notice, however, that consoles are indeed gaining more and more field and this isn't exactly due to the general expansion of the industry. Microsoft claims death won't came and there's even a rebirth underway. Here's a bit of the interview GameSpot has had with Dean Lester, the Microsoft manager responsible for graphics and gaming:

GameSpot: How does the size and growth rate of the Windows gaming platform, in terms of game releases and game sales, compare to that of the Xbox and PlayStation 2 console platforms?

Dean Lester: If you compare the PC gaming market to other individual platforms, Windows continues to hold its own as a major player. If you look at the growth of online revenues, Windows is leading the way in digital distribution and subscription-based fees. Looking forward, Microsoft has recommitted itself to the Windows platform by building partnerships with first- and third-party developers to create Windows titles. Microsoft intends to deliver steady growth for the platform by continuing to highlight the strengths of each of our gaming platforms, from Xbox, to MSN Games, to Windows.

Hmm... MSN Games aren't the first thing that comes to my mind when I think about big gaming and Xbox isn't exactly PC, but the rest is interesting to read. Make sure you've read the whole thing at GameSpot, if playing games on your PC is important to you.
