    Do these suckers strike as a +4 weapon, or do they just add +4 to hit & damage?

    Well, I did a quick search of the SoA and ToB forums, and came up with conflicting answers. But based on this response, I'd say they're +4 weapons.

    Edit: CamDawg posted first, and I'll bet he's probably correct (because he usually knows what he's talking about).

    The only effects I can find on the Guantlets are fist THAC0/damage bonuses. I assumed this is similar to the guantlets that grant THAC0 bonuses to weapons, since they don't change enchantment levels. However, the monk fist upgrades (in terms of enchantment and damage) are hardcoded into the class, so it's difficult to tell exactly how the game actually determines fist enchantment. (All of their other bonuses are easy to find and track in the 2da, it's only their fist upgrades that are hardcoded... I think.) Since Chris has stated that he used them to kill Kangaxx, I'm more inclined to beieve he's correct and that GoC do indeed change the fists to +4.

    Splunge, as usual, giving me waaaaay more credit than I deserve. :D

    A quick test with a new monk shows that Guantlets of Crushing do not strike as a +4 weapon. I couldn't hit Kangaxx's lich form or his demi-lich form.

    @Splunge
    ;) :p

    A quick check with DLTCEP shows that Gauntlets of Crushing actually strike as a normal, unenchanted weapon.

    What is a monk good for then? The kit menu says that a monk fists are considered +3 to hit weapons on a certain level but that ain't to good against most foes in ToB. I'm currently in SoA but is it really worth keeping my monk?

    By the time you get to TOB your monk will probably have +4 fists (3.8 million XP), which should hit just about anything. He will also be highly resistant to magic and able to pop out the shadows and hit an instakill attack.

    People have soloed with a monk IIRC, so he must be fairly useful throughout.

    It's probably (among) the most powerful classes in the game. Near-immune to magic at high levels, about as good AC/THAC0 as any fighter, tremendous damage and +4 striking :xx:

    My solo monk was doing fine until Draconis. I cant seem to get past him. Fire Giants do a lot of damage to him also. He hasnt had any trouble hitting anything else.
