    [IMG] Hi all,

I have been through BG2 a couple of times, and each time I wonder:

Is there any use for all the non-magical rings, stones, gems and whatnot that you find, except from the fact they can be sold?

I know there's a type of stone that could be used to get into a house in the bridge district. But aside from that, any other use for all those items?

A few are used for upgrades with Cespanar (sp?) and that's it I think. Gems that is.

There are a few uses. For example, the fat guy in Waukeen's Promenade can upgrade the Horn of Valhalla twice, and each upgrade requires a gem, although I don't remember which gems are required.

If you get the Item Upgrade Mod, Cromwell can upgrade various equipment for you, with many of the recipes requiring one or more gems as an input - that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

EDIT: I didn't include Cespenar's recipes as I assumed you didn't have ToB.

[IMG] yeah I know about the horn stuff... and tob recipies...
    thanks for the replies!
also, in SOA, do you know if the items you get from slaying certain creatures could be used.
I know dragon scales make armor, like ankheg shells.. how about the wyvern heads or winter wolf pelts?
oh, and does ANY book have a special use? just wondering what's worth carrying around!
    thanks!

I never even look at the books in BG2. In BG1 they were occasionally part of a quest (plus the ones that gave you stat bonuses), but in BG2 they're worthless. The only things you even need bother reading are in scroll form. Wyvern heads and winter wolf pelts are usable for exactly as much as they were in BG1: just profit.

Also, I ended up making a list of the random stuff that you need to upgrade things in ToB, on top of the diamond and Beljuril you need for the Horn of Valhalla. Besides gems (6 Star Saphires, 1 Emerald, 1 Diamond, 2 Rogue Stones, & 1 King's Tear), you also need 3 scrolls (Improved Haste, Invisibility, Protection from Normal Weapons), 2 rings (Ring of Fire Resistance, Ring of Invisibility), and a potion (Antidote).

Yeah, it's the Tanner's Letter, even. Anything worth reading is a scroll. The book you have to buy from the guy is a throwaway.
