von Hagen is highly disputed in Germany. His deathshow "Körperwelten" (Body Worlds) toured Europe and was a bigtime moneymaker. Von Hagen was disputed and hotly disputed right from the start, conservatives and the churches taking offense on his display of the dead in his roadshow, for good reason.
In the end it was only legal beause the people on display had agreed in life to be plastinated and to be put on display.

Producing plastinated bodies for educational purposes, that is to teach med students anatomy is one thing. To give them for public display for money is quite another thing.

But von Hagen hit the nerve of the time: His show was new, grotesque, exciting and morbid - basically your 'freakshow de luxe', allowing voyeurism coated in the air of education and science.

He's calculating businessman - chinese bodies are cheap, period. He has nothing to do with a Mengele who made sadistic experiments with the living. Where Mengele showed contempt for the suffering of the living von Hagen shows contempt for the dignity of the dead. Quite a difference.

Von Hagen's buying of chinese corpses is only adding fire to this criticism and hopefully the point where is hyped career collapses. The pretty obvious lack of consent of cheaply bought executed could take away the legality of his business. Great I say.

I really don't think that that is right. I mean, who would pay to see something like that? And who would work for him? And what kind of people would sign releases for that? And how can the law have that big of a loophole in it?

All this questions, and all I have is dead bodies. I need a drink...

That does beg quite a question, doesn't it? Obviously, those with money to spare for the former, and I refuse to speculate on the latter.
