We had a thread about this poor girl some time ago again. Her situation has indeed stirred up international organizations and i agree she should not be stoned to death. Or anyone else for that matter. But on the other hand she knew that the state she was living is following the islamic law, she even lived under this law. This means that she knew the risk and she took it.
I don't believe she should die, i think she should not be even in prison. But i don't think she is very smart too for commiting adultery in a state that has the penalty of death for that action.
If anyone wishes to sign the open letter e-petition for her got to Amnesty International and sign the letter. I already have

Wow... Well all I can really say is that this is why Americans don't like dictatorships and don't understand/like Islamic fundamentalists. And that would also explain a lot about why Christian tensions in Nigeria have increased by a lot. As for Amina Lawal knowing what kind of a governmental state she lived in and thus taking the risk of her own free will, she shouldn't have to worry about a law like that to begin with. Besides that she was divorced to husband anyway so it wouldn't technically be adultery but fornification (no one ever gets that difference, I mean Scarlet Letter anyone?) And I very much doubt that her ex-husband went two years without a new girlfriend or anything. Lousy double standard. . . :flaming: Blah... I state the obvious

And what about the death penalty in your country ? Sorry, I do not want to get into a country bashing, but do not be too easy on judging others, please.

As for me, any death penalty is equally horrible and unfair, and I therefore condemn this one completely.
But I beg you to remember that different countries have sometime incredibly different laws. Do not dismiss them from the beginning just because you do not see the point in them.

I think she shouldn't be murderered for such a thing. Who says that it wasn't her husband's child?

I won't go bashing here, but I say, that I don't agree with those laws.

    Eze,

Personaly, I think that stoning thing is kinda "primitive" (primitive by Western standards) albeit human...
The whole society there is completely overwhelmed by a muslim dogma, and does not dare speak against it.

@ Krazilek, I don't approve of the Death Penalty either and I'm one of those advocating for it to be eliminated under the constitutional "cruel and unusual" punishment. Not everything the government does is right, but at least in the U.S. when someone is executed it's quick. Not being buried up to your neck and your head having rocks thrown at it until one finally bashes your skull in. . . *shudder*

Ewwww, that's horrible. I dont understand why anyone would want to throw rocks at people until the person gets so horribly mangled, they die.
It's odd when you think of the difference from there to here. in one country, you die a slow and painful death for commiting adultrey, and in the other the worst thing is that you get divorced, and even nothing can happen.
