Is it possible to find the gnoll stronghold without talking to either Minsc or Edwin? It's been a while since I played without one or the other in the party.

Yep, just go down to the southwest corner of the map. You can find any area (besides Cloakwood before Chapter 4 and The Gate before Chapter 5) if you know where they are.

It does make more sense to have either (or both of them) in the party though. And besides, you can get extra XP from Dynaheir if you've got both of them when you find her, and play things right.

You get that XP when you save her. It doesn't matter if you have Minsc or not. I can't find a justification for taking a nutty male into an all-girl party.

You can't get the XP if you kill Edwin and don't have Minsc, though. :nolike:

Then take Minsc and get him killed after you nab Dynaheir.

Actually you can do it. My usual tactic is to go get Dynaheir without Misnc. The reason is you got to get Minsc obliterated later if you want to keep her and not him. Also all you need to get experience for killing Edwin is to have Dynaheir in your party and pick the right choices for him to initiate combat after two conversations. (Yes. I've killed him quite a few times.)

You still get Experience when you rescue Dynaheir as well as some gold. Perhaps not as much with the others but that's life.

However if you want Dynaheir and not Minsc you must make sure that you do not later speak to Minsc where he's standing there. Just treat him like a tree and go around him. If you talk to him after getting Dynaheir your only choices are to accept Misnc or lose Dynaheir.

[IMG] I don't want Minsc or Dynaheir or any other NPC. I just want my 5 gals fighting their plucky hearts out to bring Gorion's murderer to justice. All I needed to confirm was that I could get to the Gnoll stronghold *without* having to talk to anyone about it.

No problem Keumper. Was just clearing up the misconceptions. I've played through that section of the game ALOT.
