Gov Rick Perry Bans Guns! From Prayer Festival

OMG! [no pun intended]

Gov Rick has issued a decree on guns at his August Prayer fest. Not to mention that it seems a bit odd that anyone would have to do that in the first place.

I'm assuming this a joke or it may fall into the most misleading headline of the year category. It is clearly not the Governor who is banning guns from the festival it is the stadium that is doing so. Unless you and Salon are suggesting he is to blame as he didn't push for the festival to be at a more second amendment friendly site?

 

It's called sarcsm. And very amusing too, IMO.

 

That makes sense. I couldn't figure out if Salon is a comedy site like The Onion, or if it was a far left "news" site.

 

It's about as much a "real news" site as FOX.

 

Fox is more of a news site then msnbc ever will be(of course thats not setting the bar too high )

Aren't guns usually banned from stadiums and similar venues, though? I don't see why it's a big deal and why anyone should cover their asses over it.

Why would you need a gun at a prayer festival in the first place?

 

8, we are talking Texas. Carrying guns is as much a part of everyday life as is wearing underwear.

 

Bear in mind also that while you are walking back to your vehicle is the perfect time for a criminal to assault you. The bastards lie in wait to ambush people coming back from all sorts of events. People wouldn't need to wear guns if the courts system actually was effective, but sadly, we have people with multiple felony convictions wandering the streets at will.

That said, though, I can also see why you don't want guns in a stadium. Blaming the governor is ridiculous.

You folks crack me up!!! Guns, in this context? When Perry has such a wondrous collection of speakers?

It starts with the man himself - Perry once said that originally he wanted to join the ministry, but, alas, that in his job as a politician he reaches a far greater audience. Ah well, so he uses his job to proselytise, but in Texas that's probably seen as a good thing among the yahoos. But the truly disturbing and involuntary hilarious part are the speakers who will share the stage with him:

For one of these speakers, Oprah is the unwitting agent of the devil. Another one explained that the Emperor of Japan has been sexually seduced by the sun goddess thus unleashing unspeakable evil on the world.

EDIT: I forgot the best part - the influential John Hagee who says that because of Genesis (27:29) the US must unconditionally support Israel never mind what they do, lest God gets very mad (a theme shared by, yay, Michelle Bachmann) and punishes America (as for Hurricanes, be warned, He controls the Heavens (so while we're at it, no gay parades, too)) and that the second coming is SO close. Hagee also believes the Holocaust was part of God's plan to force Jews to return to Israel ((with the precarious suggestion of Hitler as God's agent - IMO something only a Hegelian may be able to wrap his head around) also suggesting that his love for the Jews and the nation of Israel is result oriented - after all the Jews are an indispensable ingredient for the second coming, in particular they will have to be there to either convert (hurry, only iirc 50.000 seats) or die in horrors gleefully foretold when the army of the Antichrist attacks, already). Some philosemiete he is. Another charming facette: For Hagee the Antichrist is the Catholic Church, or at lest officially was, until public pressure made it costly to say so openly (it prompted John McCain to run away from his endorsement). /EDIT

No word of distancing from Perry. I didn't find any mention of witchcraft, demons and spirits, but then, I didn't search. It is also unknown whether Perry will handle snakes or speak in tongues during the event.

I consider such thinking [agent of the devil; sun goddess] borderline psychotic; if the person in question presents a threat to himself or others, treatment is indicated. This is bizarre, irrational, unhinged thinking, belief in magic and wonders, and it is given a national (or at least state) stage by a putative presidential candidate. If that's his base, good grief.
