    When playing BG2/ToB without any patches that restore the levels of weapon specialization to what they are in other games, what do these levels actually do for you?

    Could somebody please chart this out for me?

    TIA

    Before the True Grand Mastery fix:

    * 1 ApR
    ** +1 to hit, +2 damage, 3/2 ApR
    *** +2 to hit, +2 damage, 3/2 ApR
    **** +2 to hit, +3 damage, 3/2 ApR, (-1 Speed Factor)
    ***** +2 to hit, +4 damage, 3/2 ApR, (-3 Speed Factor)

    After (as it is in BG1/IWD1):

    * 1 ApR
    ** +1 to hit, +2 damage, 3/2 ApR
    *** +3 to hit, +3 damage, 3/2 ApR
    **** +3 to hit, +4 damage, 3/2 ApR, (-1 Speed Factor)
    ***** +3 to hit, +5 damage, 5/2 ApR, (-3 Speed Factor)

    So, it still makes a difference when GM unmodded, but not nearly as much.

    Thanks a lot.

    I dunno about that. An extra attack is a lot. By the way, that table for the unmodded game is a bit off. It's actually:

    * 1 ApR
    ** +1 to hit, +2 damage, 3/2 ApR
    *** +2 to hit, +2 damage, 3/2 ApR
    **** +2 to hit, +2 damage, 3/2 ApR, (-1 Speed Factor)
    ***** +2 to hit, +3 damage, 3/2 ApR, (-3 Speed Factor)

    That may be what the manual says, Drew, but the 2DA file agrees with thetruth... :rolling:

    Am I the only person around here using the fixpacks?

    Eh, get true GM fix, it is really worth it. Pure fighters and kits should have something really worthwhile, and GM has it. +1 attack/round is very very useful in all situations.

    If you mean the Baldurdash fixpack I always use it.Although I can't see what it has to do with the Specialization Table.

    As Felinoid said it's wrong in the BG2 manual (IIRC they corrected it in the ToB manual).

    Maybe the game is supposed to use the nerfed table.

    IME, the "grandmastery fix" hurts me more than it helps.

    I didn't realise Baldurdash never changed this. I'll check to see if G3 does. I believe G3 changed it so it actually matched up with the ingame description.

    And from what another thread that talked on this said it also boosts up several of the fighter type enemies because they've been given grandmastery in their creature files.

    My main problem with true grandmastery (both in PnP and BG2) is that it makes fighters so much more powerful than Rangers and Paladins it isn't even remotely funny. In PnP, the disparity is even worse.

    Without it however a plain fighter has no other advantage over Paladins and Rangers except from some more dual-classing options.

    It is too unfair...
